No. 14 Princeton earns 3-0 victory over Northeastern

The shutout marked the first time the Huskies have been blanked this season

DEDHAM, Mass. – For the first time in the 2017 season, the Northeastern field hockey team was held scoreless as No. 14 Princeton earned a 3-0 victory over the Huskies at Dedham Field on Sunday.
 
Gluyas made a career-best nine saves on the day facing 23 Princeton shots in 70 minutes of action. Princeton (8-6) was led by Ryan McCarthy who had five shots on the day, three on goal and tallied the game-winner for the Tigers.
 
The Husky offense (7-8) was unable to really get going taking just five shots on the day, three of which came just before halftime off of a pair of penalty corner opportunities.
 
GOAL DESCRIPTIONS
 
FIRST HALF
Princeton (1-0): Ryan McCarthy notched her team leading 12th goal of the season executing a penalty corner opportunity perfectly three minutes into the game getting the kick out from Julianna Tournette and the insert from Clara Roth for the early lead.
 
SECOND HALF
Princeton (2-0): Elise Wong positioned herself just outside the right side of the goal and batted in a shot after Gluyas made two consecutive saves off of shots by MaryKate Neff and McCarthy off of the corner opportunity. The second rebound was cleared towards Wong who knocked down the ball into the goal for her first goal of the season.
 
Princeton (3-0): Roth, after a pass from McCarthy, dribbled down the baseline and sent a pass through the Northeastern defense to Neff who was waiting just in front of the goal and snuck a pass just by Gluyas to her right side and into the net.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies are on the road in their final road game of the season when they head to James Madison next Friday, October 20 at 6 p.m. before returning home on Sunday against St. Joseph's on Play for the Cure day at Dedham Field.
