BOSTON -- On the heels of a statement 4-2 win over William & Mary at Parsons Field on Sunday, the Northeastern women's soccer team (10-5-2, 4-1-2) concludes the regular season home schedule on Thursday against Towson (5-10-2, 2-5-0).
CAA outlook
Entering Thursday's action, Hofstra (24 points) has clinched first place in the CAA and will host the semifinals and finals of the CAA tournament. Drexel (16 points) clings to a two-point lead over Northeastern (14 points) and currently owns the No. 2 seed which gives the Dragons a bye in the quarterfinals. Charleston (10 points) and James Madison (nine points) still have outside shots of reaching the No. 2 seed and currently sit in contention for a playoff spot. William & Mary (eight points) holds the final playoff spot at the moment but will have to keep an eye on Elon (six points), Delaware (six points) and Towson (six points) who could move ahead of the Tribe with a win. UNCW (five points) rounds out the table in sixth place.
Northeastern Milestones
In NU's 4-2 triumph over William & Mary on Sunday, two Huskies reached career milestones that will go down in women's soccer history at Northeastern. In the 36th minute, senior
Kayla Cappuzzo picked up her 20th career assist to break the record for assists at Northeastern. She registered another assist later in the game on senior
Hannah Lopiccolo's game-winning goal. It was Lopiccolo's 20th career goal, making her the seventh player in Husky history to hit the 20-goal mark. Junior
Hannah Rosenblatt is a single goal from joining Lopiccolo in the 20-goal club.
Scouting Towson
After winning three of five games to start the year, the Towson Tigers have had a tough time stringing together consecutive wins and now sit in ninth in the CAA standings. Towson's two conference wins have come against Elon and UNCW, respectively. Of their four losses in conference play, the Tigers have fallen by only one goal four times. Their only loss by more than one goal in CAA play came against first-place Hofstra in a 3-0 game. Senior Maddie Bove has enjoyed a successful season on offense with five goals and three assists while junior McKenzie McCaull paces the team in assists with four.
The road ahead
Northeastern will conclude the regular season on Sunday at UNCW. If the Huskies finish second in the CAA, they will have a first-round bye and will open their postseason at Hofstra against the winner of a quarterfinal game. Should Northeastern finish third or fourth, a quarterfinal matchup would be held at Parsons Field with a trip to Hofstra on the line. If NU drops to fifth or sixth, a quarterfinal matchup on the road would be in the cards for the Huskies.
