BOSTON -- After going unbeaten in its final three games of the regular season, the Northeastern women's soccer team (11-5-3, 5-1-3) gears up for a CAA quarterfinals matchup against the Charleston Cougars (8-8-1, 3-5-1) on Sunday at Parsons Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

CAA Tournament

No. 3 Northeastern begins its title defense against No. 6 Charleston this weekend with a trip to Hofstra for the semifinals on the line. The winner of the Huskies-Cougars match will face No. 2 Drexel in the semis. On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 James Madison welcomes No. 5 William & Mary for a quarterfinal showdown with the winner advancing to face No. 1 Hofstra on Long Island.

Title defense begins Sunday

The Huskies have been the team to beat in the last four CAA tournaments. In 2013, Northeastern worked its way to the championship game by winning the quarterfinals and semifinals on penalty kicks. The Huskies came out strong in the final with a 3-1 victory over No. 1 James Madison to capture the CAA ring. The following season, NU went on a season-long tear that earned it the No. 1 seed. A 4-0 win over the No. 4 Tribe and a 2-0 win over No. 3 Hofstra propelled Northeastern to its second straight conference championship. A quarterfinal loss at James Madison in 2015 set the stage for a hungrier Northeastern team in 2016. As the No. 1 seed, the Huskies dominated No. 5 William & Mary, 3-0, before holding off No. 2 Drexel in the championship, again winning 3-0.

Last time vs. Charleston

On Sept.  24, the Huskies and Cougars played their only head-to-head match of the regular season. Northeastern's offense found its stride that afternoon and defeated CofC, 3-0. Freshman Chelsea Domond registered her first collegiate goal in the first half as she fired a shot from the top of the box into the top-left corner for the eventual game-winner. Redshirt sophomore Lizzie George and junior Nicole Gorman each potted their first goal of the season in the second half as NU came away with the three-goal victory.

Senior sendoff

Northeastern's five seniors prepare for their final postseason with the Huskies. Seniors Mollie Rosen, Hannah Lopiccolo, Kayla Cappuzzo and Carly Wilhelm are veterans of two CAA championships while redshirt senior Taylor Caparo sports three conference championship rings. These five Huskies will play their final home game on Sunday in the quarterfinal dance against Charleston.
