ELON, N.C. -- The Northeastern women's soccer team (9-4-2, 3-0-2) found the back of the net three times on Sunday afternoon, but came away with only a point in a 3-3 tie against Elon.
The Huskies played their fifth consecutive CAA game without a loss as the Huskies now have 11 points in the conference standings.
Elon opened the scoring right off the bat as the Phoenix claimed a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the match. Leading scorer Meredith Christopher buried her seventh goal of the season to get Elon off and running.
Another Elon goal in the 17th minute gave them a 2-0 lead, but freshman
Julianne Ross stepped up with her second goal of the season to give Northeastern some life. She leapt into a cross from
Mikenna McManus and found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 game.
A third Elon goal gave the home team another two goal lead, but again, the Huskies persisted. In the 36th minute, redshirt senior
Taylor Caparo fed senior
Carly Wilhelm in the box and Wilhelm headed the ball home to make it a 3-2 game.
The eventful first half was followed up by only a single goal for the Huskies as senior
Kayla Cappuzzo notched her third goal of the season. It stood as the game-tying goal and would be the last goal of a six-goal day between the two teams.
Northeastern kicks off a three-game homestand this Thursday as it hosts Hofstra at Parsons Field at 6 p.m.
