BOSTON – Two-goal games from Adam Gaudette and Lincoln Griffin, along with a season-high 33 saves from freshman Cayden Primeau, propelled the No. 13 Northeastern men's hockey team (6-2-1, 4-0-0) to a 6-1 victory over No. 15 Boston University (4-6-1, 2-3-1) in front of a sellout crowd of 4,724 at Matthews Arena on Friday night.
 
The win moves the Huskies to 4-0-0 in Hockey East play for the first time since 2008, and gives Northeastern its first conference sweep of the Terriers since the 1988-89 season.
 
Northeastern struck twice in the first period with goals from captain Nolan Stevens and Gaudette less than seven minutes into the game. BU cut into the lead in the opening minute of the second period with a goal from Patrick Harper before Gaudette extended the advantage with his nation-leading 25th career power play goal.
 
Despite being outshot 13-7 in the final frame, Northeastern continued to do damage as Griffin scored a pair of goals before Bobby Hampton closed out the scoring late. Zach Solow chipped in with three assists, tying a season-high, while 12 different Huskies recorded at least one point on the night.
 
The Terriers outshot NU 34-23 in the game, but Primeau was solid in goal from beginning to end, finishing with 33 saves including 27 in the final two periods. Jake Oettinger made 16 saves in goal before being replaced by Max Prawdzik late in regulation.
 
Northeastern's power play was lethal all night long, going 3-of-5 while the penalty killing unit did its job at the other end with a perfect 4-of-4 performance.
 
Goal descriptions
• The Huskies bolted out to a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game with Stevens' sixth of the season and fourth in the last two games. As the Terriers attempted to break the puck out of the zone, an errant pass knocked off the boards and on to the stick of Zach Solow. Solow then headed towards the cage before dropping a pass to Stevens, who used the defenseman as a screen to beat Oettinger over the blocker.
 
• Northeastern extended its lead to two three minutes later on Gaudette's seventh of the year. While NU maintained puck possession in the attacking zone, Ryan Shea's intentional shot wide kicked off the end wall to Gaudette. Gaudette's centering feed was knocked into the air, where chaos ensured atop the crease. Gaudette, though, spotted the puck, quickly collected it and went top shelf for the 2-0 Northeastern lead.
 
• The Terriers cut the deficit in half less than a minute into the second period on Harper's fifth of the year. After Boston University broke the puck out of the defensive zone, Brady Tkachuk flung a pass across the neutral zone to Harper crossing the blue line. Harper then peeled back, wheeled up to the blue line and fired a shot through traffic that beat Primeau.
 
• Gaudette brought the Northeastern lead back to two with 3:30 to go in the middle frame with his second of the night. With NU controlling the puck in the Terrier end, Lincoln Griffin sent the puck up to Solow at the point. Solow then fired a low shot intentionally to the right of the cage, where it bounced off the end wall to a waiting Gaudette on the opposite post for the tap in.
 
• Griffin put the hosts ahead by three 6:39 into the third period with his third of the season with Northeastern operating on the power play. After BU was whistled for boarding, Jeremy Davies slid the puck across the blue line to Solow, who whistled a shot in towards the net, where Griffin got a stick on it from the slot for the redirection past Oettinger and a 4-1 Northeastern lead.
 
• Griffin found the back of the net again with 6:05 to play in regulation when he chased down a loose puck off a clear from Patrick Schule. Oettinger came out to try and beat Griffin, but Griffin got there first, avoiding contact with Oettinger and a Terrier defender before depositing the puck into the open net.
 
• Hampton closed out the scoring during a late Husky power play in the final minute of the game, redirecting a Trevor Owens shot from the point past Max Prawdzik, who replaced Oettinger after the fifth NU goal.

Stats of the game
• The Huskies picked up their first Hockey East series sweep of the Terriers for the first time since the 1988-89 season, and its first series win against BU since 2000-01 (2-0-1).
 
• Friday's win marked the first time in program history that Northeastern has held Boston University to one goal or fewer twice in the same season.
 
• Friday marked Northeastern's first home victory over Boston University since Mar. 3, 2012, snapping a five-game skid (0-4-1).
 
• Northeastern is now 60-154-9 all-time against Boston University, and wins two straight against the Terriers for the first time since 2013.
 
• Northeastern is now 4-0-0 in Hockey East play for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
 
• Northeastern's six goals on Friday were the most against BU since Feb. 27, 2015 at Agganis Arena, and the most in a home game since Nov. 1, 2002.
 
• Gaudette recorded his second multi-point game of the season and his 25th career power play tally, which leads all active players nationally.
 
• Stevens is riding a three-game point streak (five goals, one assist), while Solow has four assists in his last two games. Matt Filipe, meanwhile, has assists in each of his last three games.
 
• Solow has five assists in his last two games, while Hampton has scored a goal in each of his last three games.
 
• Brandon Schultz and Billy Carrabino both recorded their first collegiate points with assists on Friday.
