BOSTON – With 11 different players recording a basket on the day, the Northeastern basketball team raced past Wentworth 83-49 Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena on the day the team debuted its new court design.

The Huskies (2-0) were paced by sophomore Shawn Occeus who tallied 12 points on the day on 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc. Three other Huskies tallied double-digit scoring with Donnell Gresham finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists while Bolden Brace and Devon Begley added 10 points each. Brace also pulled down six rebounds and added three assists.

Wentworth was led by Jason Ganley who had 17 points on the night for the Leopards while Stephen Azums added eight points and six rebounds.

The Huskies held Wentworth to just 49-points marking the first game Northeastern held an opponent to under-50 points since a 47-44 victory at Towson on Feb. 11, 2016. The 34-point victory marks the largest in program history besting the previous 29-point, 91-62 victory from 2015.

The 34-point win also tied the second-largest of the Bill Coen era (79-45 win over Drexel on Jan. 9, 2008) and was the largest since a 36-point victory over Delaware last season. The Huskies have now recorded a 30-point victory in the last three seasons.

FIRST HALF
The Huskies got out to a fast 5-0 lead as Begley started things off with a three before Anthony Green added a dunk, his fourth of the season. After Wentworth cut the lead to two (8-6) three minutes into the game, Northeastern used a 10-0 run highlighted by six points from Brace and a Jeremy Miller three, his first points of 2017-18, to make it an 18-8 game.

The Huskies went four minutes without a basket, but used a 16-4 run to close out the first half heading into halftime with a 41-21 lead over the neighboring Leopards.

During that stretch, five different Huskies added to the Northeastern total, and the lead.

SECOND HALF
Northeastern continued its scoring burst, starting the second half off on an 8-2 run that forced Arlen Galloway to call a timeout less than two minutes into the frame with the Huskies leading 49-23.

The Huskies built up to their largest lead of the game halfway through the second half, a 59-32 lead after Miller buried his second three of the game. The team extended that lead to 29-points after Occeus completed the rare four-point play, knocking down a three with some help from Gresham and adding the free throw to make it a 68-39 ballgame.

Northeastern went on an 11-0 run to close out the game as a Brace three from the corner gave the Huskies a 32-point lead while back-to-back layups by Tomas Murphy and Derrick Cook pushed the Husky advantage to 36. With just four seconds left in the game Wentworth finished with a layup for the final 83-49.

UP NEXT
Northeastern heads out on the road for four-straight beginning with a cross country voyage that will see them face Stanford on Friday afternoon before heading back across the country for a Sunday afternoon meeting with Ohio State as a part of the Phil Knight 80 Invitational.
