BURLINGTON, Vt. – Draining a program record, 15 3-pointers, against Vermont on Sunday afternoon, the Northeastern women's basketball team used its hot perimeter shooting to distance itself from the Catamounts as the Huskies collected the 71-66 victory at Patrick Gymnasium.

Shannon Todd drained five 3-pointers to lead Northeastern (4-5), scoring a team high, 22 points, while also setting a personal career high in the process. Jess Genco finished with 18 points and drilled four 3-point jumpers from behind the arc, also tallying seven assists, four rebounds, and a block.

Loren Lassiter paced the Huskies on the glass, pairing her seven rebounds with seven points and two blocks during 39 minutes of action. Zoe Zwerling contributed eight points off the bench, Gabby Giacone scored seven points, and Stella Clark recorded six points and five assists.

Northeastern shot 46 percent from the field (24-for-52) and 44 percent from downtown (15-for-34), eclipsing its previous 3-point record, 14, set on Nov. 12, 1991, against Syracuse. Six different NU players combined to comprise the Huskies' 15 perimeter makes on Sunday.

Hanna Crymble led Vermont (2-9) with 32 points on 13-for-18 shooting, also going five-for-six at the foul line. Kristina White recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Sydney Smith scored 11 points and tacked on two steals.

FIRST QUARTER

Northeastern bettered Hanna Crymble's 12-point first quarter with a pair of six-point displays by Jess Genco and Shannon Todd. Genco swished the first of the Huskies' record-breaking, 15 3-pointers less than 10 seconds into the game, receiving the opening tip via Gabby Giacone and Stella Clark. Todd upped Northeastern's lead to 6-2 during its next trip down the floor, completing the three-point play after knocking down her and-one jumper from the right side. After a two-minute lull in scoring, Todd answered Crymble's interior bucket with a 3-point basket to put NU in front, 9-6, where the score would remain heading into the 4:50 media timeout. Exiting the break, Loren Lassiter traded baskets with Crymble on back-to-back possessions, but the Huskies would miss each of their next five shots as Crymble single-handedly built Vermont a 12-11 lead. Genco managed to win the last laugh, capitalizing on the Catamounts' fifth turnover by taking the ensuing inbound play down the floor, where she beat the buzzer with her right-wing 3-pointer.

SECOND QUARTER

After Crymble had scored her 14th consecutive point on her sixth field goal to level the game at 14-14, Genco collected her second personal foul with 8:10 to go at the expense of Sydney Smith's three-point play. Upon taking over at the point, Clark evened the game at 17-17 with a 3-pointer, but the Catamounts responded by posting three field goals against the Huskies' three free throws to grab a 24-20 lead with 4:32 to go. Clark came through with her second 3-pointer of the quarter to pull NU within a point, but Vermont again took charge, scoring six unanswered points and forcing Northeastern into calling timeout with 2:25 remaining. Out of the break, Todd and Jasmin Watson knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, triggering a 10-0 run for the Huskies that witnessed NU erase a seven-point deficit and build a 33-30 halftime lead.

THIRD QUARTER

Todd accounted for Northeastern's first eight points of the second half, sandwiching a pair of 3-point jumpers around Cassidy Derda's 3-pointer, then adding another bucket in the lane. Crymble overlaid Todd's production with a string of five straight points herself, trimming the Huskies' lead to 41-38 with 6:58 to play. Genco knocked down the Huskies' 10th 3-pointer of the game to help NU regain a six-point advantage (44-38), but the Catamounts drew level again with a 6-0 run, capped by Smith's four-for-four mark at the free throw line. Zwerling and Genco buried two more 3-pointers for the Huskies' cause during a furious, back-and-forth stretch that witnessed both teams combine to score during six straight possessions. During the final play of the quarter, Giacone hit her 3-pointer from Genco as the shot clock expired, providing NU with a 55-51 lead.

FOURTH QUARTER

Lassiter's three-point play during the opening minute brought Northeastern its largest lead of the game – nine points – at 60-51. Vermont closed to within six points courtesy of Kristina White's 3-pointer with 6:25 to go, prompting the Catamounts to immediately call timeout to set their defense. Genco upped Northeastern's lead to eight points at 63-55 with a jumper, but Crymble managed to tally consecutive baskets for Vermont, tightening the score to 63-59 with 3:29 remaining. Todd and Zwerling accounted for the final two 3-pointers of the Huskies' record-breaking day as Northeastern cruised down the stretch to the 71-66 victory.
