BOSTON – Sophomore defenseman Jeremy Davies and senior winger Dylan Sikura has been named to Team Canada's roster for the Spengler Cup, which will be held from December 26 to December 31 in Davos, Switzerland. It is the fifth and final tournament in which Team Canada will compete as it prepares for the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Davies and Sikura will miss Northeastern's game against American International on Dec. 30. The oldest club tournament in the world, the Spengler Cup has been won by Canada's National Men's Team the last two years – a feat that had not been accomplished since 2002-2003.

"We're thrilled that Jeremy and Dylan have the chance to compete with Team Canada," said Fernie Flaman Men's Hockey Coach Jim Madigan. "Obviously we'll miss their presence while they are away, but as a program we couldn't be more excited for the opportunity that they have in front of them. It's certainly well-deserved."

"The Spengler Cup allows us an opportunity to take another look at some players who've been part of earlier teams, as well as work with some new faces, just given how it aligns with other league schedules," said SeanBurke, general manager of the Canada National Men's Team, who noted that eight of the 20 players selected come from either the NCAA or the American Hockey League (AHL). "Our goal remains to put together the best possible team to compete in PyeongChang in February. We're looking forward to this opportunity to work with new players, and take part in this historic event."

Sikura (Aurora, Ontario) is currently tied for 14th in the nation with 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 15 games, while his 1.47 points is fourth in the NCAA. He was named the Hockey East Player of the Month in October after posting 14 points (six goals, eight assists) during the first month of the season.

"Dylan has worked incredibly hard over the last several years to develop into one of the top all-around players in college hockey," said Madigan, "and to see him earn this opportunity, especially after missing the Karjala Cup earlier this season, is a testament to the effort he's put in on and off the ice."

Sikura's game has been on the rise since his arrival on campus in 2014-15, going from a seven-point freshman campaign to becoming the 50th player in team history to reach the 100-point plateau on Oct. 20 against Quinnipiac, becoming one of college hockey's most elite players in the process.

He's currently third in the nation among active players with 114 career points, tied for seventh in goals (45) and fifth in assists (69). He's also fourth in career power play goals (19). Dating back to the start of the 2016-17 season, he has 79 points in 53 games (1.49 points per game). Sikura is a sixth round draft choice of the Chicago Blackhawks (178th overall in 2014).

Davies (Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec) is tied for third on the team with 16 points (three goals, 13 assists), which is good for a tie for seventh in the NCAA among defensemen. His 0.94 points per game, meanwhile, are good for third in the nation among active blueliners.

"Jeremy has been one of our most dependable defensemen from the moment he stepped on campus last season," said Madigan. "His steady play in his own zone while also being an offensive threat at the other end of the ice is something we've come to rely on, and he has emerged as one of the best puck-moving blueliners in the NCAA."

Davies, who averages more than 20 minutes of ice time per game, is a constant on both the Northeastern power play and penalty killing units. Ten of his 16 points this season, have come on the power play. He also has 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) in his first 55 collegiate contests. Davies is a seventh round draft choice of the New Jersey Devils (192nd overall in 2016).

Action at the Spengler Cup gets underway on Dec. 26 as Team Canada takes on Mountfield HC at 2 p.m. (ET) at Valliant Arena. TSN will carry all 11 tournament games live.

The Northeastern men's hockey team is back in action on Dec. 30 when the Huskies host AIC at Matthews Arena. Tickets to the game, and all Northeastern home games in 2017-18, can be purchased by clicking here or visiting tickets.GoNU.com.
