BOSTON – Northeastern opened its indoor season at Boston University on Saturday. Five different Huskies set or tied a career best in the meet, while Northeastern posted 20 top-three finishes.
The Red and Black dominated the shot put, taking first place both the men's and women's.
Leeyan Redwood posted 14.32 meters, a new career best, to take first place.
Ryan Kim took first with a 17.16 meter throw. Senior
Spencer McKeough also set a new career high, with a 16.01 meter throw, earning him fifth place.
On his way to a first place finish in the weighted throw,
Eric Mellusi set a new career high, 18.64 meters. Sophomore
Erica Belvit took second place for the women with a 16.91 meter throw.
Newcomer Shraeya Srinivasan started off her Husky career with a first place finish in the triple jump, while fellow freshman Khailah Griffin took second place in the long jump.
Audrey Weyand crossed at 57.59 in the 400 meters to finish in second place and set a new career best.
Jordan Samuels and
Shawn Bleichert finished back-to-back in the 60 meter hurdles, with Samuels earning second place and Bleichert taking third place.
Naukym Morton tied his career best in the 60 meters with a time of 6.78 on his way to a first place finish in the event.
Corinne Myers and
Amy Piccolo finished second and third, respectively, in the 800 meters, while
Marc Rienas took first place for the men.
The Huskies' relays both finished in the top-five in the first meet of the season, with the men's relay (Lin, Holt, Boudreau, Hanson) taking fourth place and the women's relay (Williams, Hanlon, Griffin, Weyand) finishing fitfth.
Both the men's and women's team, earned a second place finish in the 1000 meters,
Sarah Adler for the women and
Cameron Kunde for the men.
The men post four first-place finishes, 24 top-five finishes and three career bests. While the women's team earned two first place finishes, 13 top-five finishes and two new career bests.
