Sally's career game helps Northeastern top Towson

Box Score | Season Statistics | Infographic

TOWSON, Md. – Backed by senior Francesca Sally's career afternoon, the Northeastern women's basketball team upped its winning streak to three in a row on Sunday as the Huskies downed Towson, 63-51, at SECU Arena.

With the victory, Northeastern (10-17, 6-9 CAA) completed the regular-season sweep of the Tigers, having won the two teams' Jan. 6 meeting at Cabot Center, 72-64. The Huskies also moved into a three-way tie for fifth place in the CAA standings, despite NU being relegated to the No. 6 seed by virtue of William & Mary gaining a reversed decision per the league's Feb. 2 ruling.

Sally tied her career highs in scoring (24 points) and steals (four), adding 12 rebounds to achieve her 13th career double-double. The six-foot-two center was a force on all ends of the court for the Huskies, balancing her 12 boards evenly at six apiece on the offensive and defensive glass while shooting nine-of-17 from the field and burying two 3-point jumpers.

The NU trio of Sally, Claudia Ortiz, and Jess Genco spent nearly the entire duration of Sunday's game on the floor together with the three players accumulating 40, 39, and 38 minutes of action, respectively. Ortiz dropped 14 points and dished out four assists, while Genco recorded 11 points, five dimes, and a steal.

Gabby Giacone led the Huskies' supporting cast with seven points and seven rebounds, despite seeing a slight dip in playing time after picking up her third personal foul with 9:42 remaining in the second quarter. Courtney Redcross and Loren Lassiter fortified Northeastern's post presence, combining for five boards.

Timely baskets by Northeastern during the second half helped the Huskies keep their distance from Towson (11-15, 4-11 CAA). Giacone's 3-point jumper during the final minute of the third quarter – her first since Dec. 20 – halted a 6-0 scoring run by the Tigers and kept Northeastern's seven-point halftime lead in tact entering the fourth quarter.

Etalyia Vogt paced Towson with 12 points, scoring 10 during the first quarter, while Sianni Martin joined her in double-figures. Maia Lee finished with 11 rebounds, collecting seven of her team's 21 offensive boards.
