BOSTON – In control of its own destiny to secure one of the top six seeds in next week's CAA tournament, the Northeastern women's basketball team will look to take care of business on its home floor on Wednesday, March 1, as the Huskies host Hofstra during the regular-season finale, tipping at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, NU will honor the two members of its 2017 senior class, Francesca Sally and Briana Schnare, during a special on-court ceremony beginning at 6:40 p.m.

THANK YOU, SENIORS

Wednesday night will mark the final regular-season home game for Northeastern seniors Francesca Sally and Briana Schnare. The NU duo has played an instrumental role in turning around the program from its four-win season during the 2014-15 campaign, rising up as juniors to help lead the Huskies improve by 11 victories, a tie for the seventh best turnaround across Division I that year. Sally and Schnare both arrived at Northeastern prior to the 2013-14 season and have assisted in taking the program to new heights, such as its first-ever CAA semifinal appearance in 2016.

CAA TOURNEY RACE
Northeastern requires a victory on Wednesday or a loss by UNCW (against Elon) to clinch the No. 6 seed in the 2017 CAA tournament and the right to open the postseason in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 9; else the Huskies will be the No. 7 seed and enter in the first round on Wednesday, March 8.

If NU were to secure the No. 6 seed, the Huskies would oppose No. 3 Drexel at 7:30 p.m. on quarterfinal Thursday. The two programs would be meeting in a rematch of the 2016 CAA semifinals, won by the Dragons, 58-45.

As the No. 7 seed, Northeastern would oppose the No. 10 seed at 2:30 p.m. during Wednesday's opening round. The Huskies' first-round opponent could be any of three teams: Hofstra, Towson, and College of Charleston. Before wrapping up its regular-season series against the Pride on March 1, Northeastern has combined to go 5-0 against these three programs.

Despite the CAA regular-season title still on the line, Elon and James Madison have guaranteed themselves the top two seeds in the tournament. Delaware and William & Mary can only finish as either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed, while the final five seeds are inherently up for grabs.

Here is a look at the conference race for seeds four through 10:

Seed School CAA Record Adjusted Record
No. 4 Delaware 9-8 9-8
William & Mary 8-9 9-8
No. 6 Northeastern 7-10 7-10
No. 7 UNCW 5-12 6-11
No. 8 Hofstra 5-12 5-12
Towson 5-12 5-12
No. 10 College of Charleston 6-11 4-13

ALL-TIME AGAINST HOFSTRA

Upon Northeastern defeating Hofstra, 53-51, in overtime on Jan. 2 to begin the 2016-17 conference season, the Huskies drew level with the Pride in the all-time series, knotting it at 20-20. NU has won two straight meetings against Hofstra, including the 2016 quarterfinals, when sixth-seeded Northeastern upset the third-seeded Pride, 65-54, to advance to the program's first-ever CAA semifinal. Prior to the two teams' run in the CAA (2005-present), the Huskies went 11-4 against Hofstra during both programs' tenure together in the America East (1994-2001).

ALL ABOARD THE NU FREIGHT TRAIN

For the second consecutive year, Northeastern is surging down the home stretch of the regular season on its way to the CAA tournament. A season ago, the Huskies won seven of their final nine CAA games to counter a 2-7 start to their conference schedule, finishing the year 9-9 and with the league's No. 6 seed. This year, Northeastern enters the regular-season finale having won four of its last five games and a chance at gaining automatic entry to the CAA quarterfinals for the second straight season.

LAST WEEK

• Northeastern split a pair of league games on the road against College of Charleston (W, 86-75) and UNCW (L, 63-68). In doing so, the Huskies enter Wednesday's game with an 11-18 (7-10 CAA) record.

• Francesca Sally and Claudia Ortiz combined to score 102 of the Huskies' 149 total points last week (68 percent). Sally followed her career-high, 30-point outing on Feb. 24 with a 22-point showing on Feb. 26, while Ortiz posted impressive scoring tallies of 21 and 29 points during those games, respectively. Like Sally's 30 points, Ortiz's 29 points on Feb. 26 also equated to a career high, while the junior from Carolina, Puerto Rico, also set a career-best mark with six 3-point field goals.

• Sophomore point guard Jess Genco logged her fifth and sixth consecutive 40-minute games, raising her season total to 15. Entering Wednesday night, Genco is the Division I leader in minutes per game (38.6).
