Results
HOUSTON – The Northeastern track and field team opened the outdoor campaign at Rice University's Victor Lopez Invitational this past Friday and Saturday. During the two day meet, the Huskies earned 15 top ten finishes, a strong showing for the first meet of the season.
The men's team posted 12 personal bests, four NU top 10 marks, 14 New England qualifying marks and nine IC4A qualifying performances. The women's squad recorded seven personal bests, five NU top 10 marks, 15 New England qualifying marks and two ECAC qualifying performances.
Highlights from the track included
Paul Duffey taking first overall in the 800m run with a time of 1:49.97,
Marc Rienas following just behind in third place clocking 1:50.62,
David Adams taking fourth overall in his collegiate debut in the 400m hurdles with a 53.55 finish and the women's 4x400m relay team that took fourth overall and qualified for the ECAC meet with a time of 3:50.25.
On the field, Northeastern athletes notched eight top ten finishes with junior
Ryan Kim earning a team high second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 16.67m (54' 8.25"). In her first outdoor competition, rookie
Leeyan Redwood earned a sixth place finish in the shot put with a 13.26m mark.
Meanwhile in Bridgewater, Mass, 10 student-athletes made their season debut in the 10,000 meter run. The Husky women had a strong showing as
Kerri Ruffo,
Brooke Wojeski and
Louiza Wise claimed the top three finishes in the women's race.
Elizabeth Harrington and
Camila Cortina rounded out the Huskies' competitors placing in the top 15 overall. In their career debuts in the 10,000m run, Wojeski and Wise posted New England qualifying times and etched their names on the NU top 10 all-time list.
On the men's side,
Dan Romano and Pat Cunningham earned top ten finishes placing 2
nd and 7
th respectively. In his career debut in the event, Romano clocked 31:09.16, a time that qualifies for both the New England and IC4A championship meets. Cunningham and
Craig Hammond earned personal bests in the event, finishing in 32:15.34 and 33:43.17.

The Huskies will compete on the road again next weekend at both the Stanford Invite and Yale's Mark Young Invite.
