BOSTON – Supported by 17 top ten finishes, five top three finishes and a first place finish from
Naukym Morton, the Northeastern track and field team will participate in nine events on the final day of ECAC/IC4A competition tomorrow.
A pair of school records were threatened in today's competition, starting with another blazing finish from rookie
Naukym Morton, who clocked 6.74 in the semifinal round of the 60 meter dash. Morton also claimed the top seed for tomorrow's finals. Just last week, Morton reset his own school record in the event to 6.72. On the women's side,
Patrice Williams was just off teammate
Katie Hanlon's program record in the 500 meters finishing in 1:13.72. One week ago at the New England Championships, Hanlon turned in a record performance of 1:13.68. Both runners qualified today for the 500m finals on Sunday.
Other notable finishes included
Cameron Kunde's 1:52.58 mark in the 800 meters. Despite the 18
th place finish, Kunde was just two seconds off the top spot held by Richard Grudzwick from Central Connecticut State. The men's heptathlon also wrapped up during today's events, with Northeastern junior
Nick Fofana improving to a second place finish with 5154 points after completing day one sitting in third. Senior
Jordan O'Dea contributed six points to the Northeastern effort late in the day with 16:44.98, third place finish in the 5000 meters.
Freshman
Erica Belvit notched four points for the Red and Black with a fifth place finish in the weight throw.
Senior
Paul Duffey and sophomore
Marc Rienas will tackle the men's 1000m on Sunday, turning in top five times of 2:24.12 and 2:26.21 in the prelims.
Additional qualifiers include the men's distance medley relay (Kunde, Holt, Donovan, Cunningham) who are seeded 6
th after a 9:56.85 run. The men's 4x400m relay (Jewett, Johnston, Adams, Lin) will also appear in tomorrow's finals with a prelim time of 3:13.87, good for ninth place. Sprinters
Shawn Bleichert and
Jessica Scott advanced to the finals in the 60m hurdles and 60m dash with runs of 8.18, 8.14, 7.61 and 7.63 in the prelims and semis respectively. Bleichert holds the five seed while Scott enters as the seven seed.
