CSCAA release

NORFOLK, Va. – Having collectively achieved a 3.33 cumulative GPA during the spring 2017 term, the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team was recognized Wednesday as a Scholar All-America recipient by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), marking the sixth consecutive semester and eighth since 2013 during which the Huskies have met the award's 3.0 GPA criteria.
Â
After registering its third straight top-five finish at the CAA championship meet in February, Northeastern went on to mirror its success in the pool with a masterful performance in the classroom, attaining its highest term GPA since the spring 2013 semester (3.41).
Â
In all, the CSCAA honored 173 Division I women's programs with Scholar All-America distinction, among which the Huskies were one of 138 that exceeded a 3.30 GPA. NU was also one of five CAA women's teams that received the recognition for high academic achievement, joining Drexel, James Madison, Towson, and William & Mary.
Â
Individual success has been the key to the steady rise in Northeastern's GPA, which has improved during each of the past four semesters. Five swimming and diving student-athletes (Delaney Lanker, Miriam Schaefer, Rachel Smith, Sidney Smith, and Lena Spear) garnered Top Dog honors upon achieving spring 2017 GPAs of 3.8 or higher, with Rachel Smith and Spear both recording perfect 4.0 marks. Jacquelyn Gover and Rachel Green also joined their five Top Dog teammates on the spring 2017 Dean's List, attaining semester GPAs of 3.5 or higher with no grade below C-.
Â
Across all levels of collegiate competition, the CSCAA awarded 720 programs from 443 institutions with Scholar All-America honors, marking the first time during the association's 95-year history that more than 700 teams have been recognized. The CSCAA attributed the increase to the growth of swimming at the collegiate level, with, "the number of men's and women's institutions sponsoring swimming and diving [being] at a 10-year high."
