CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Moustapha Samb's first collegiate goal during the 24th minute of Wednesday night's match at Jordan Field brought the Northeastern men's soccer team level with Harvard at one goal apiece, despite the two sides playing to a 1-1 stalemate after a pair of goalless overtime periods.
Â
Samb's goal earned the NU junior the fifth and sixth points of his three-year career, having registered his previous four points all on assists he recorded during his 2015 season at Connecticut. Freshman forward
Dan Munch joined Samb in recording his first career point while wearing a Northeastern kit, providing the give-and-go support to Samb's 25-yard strike from the top left corner of the Huskies' offensive box.
Â
Chances were not hard to come by on Wednesday for Northeastern (1-3-1), which amassed 26 total attempts, despite placing only eight on target.
Harry Swartz led the Huskies with seven attempts, but waited until the 110th minute to register his only shot on goal.
Lewis Aird chipped in five shots during 97 minutes of action as a reserve.
Â
Jonathan Thuresson steadied the Northeastern net to the tune of seven saves, two fewer than his career-high, nine-save effort against No. 12 UMass Lowell on Sept. 9. Thuresson stopped four Harvard shots on goal during the first half but was caught flat-footed during the 11th minute, when Philip Hausen's left-to-right shot took a pair of deflections off
Edward Okey and Samb on its way to the back of the net.
Â
Aird received the Huskies' only booking – a yellow card during the 30th minute. Harvard's Christian Sady and Paolo Belloni-Urso were also cautioned during the 44th and 67th minutes, respectively.

GOAL RECAPS
Â
•Â
Harvard (11th minute): After working a counter attack up the left side of the pitch,
Edward Okey disrupted a Harvard lead pass, deflecting it forward off
Moustapha Samb and into Paolo Belloni-Urso's possession. Belloni-Urso then passed backwards to Philip Hausen, who completed the run into the left side of the Crimson's 18-yard box and directed a centering cross that deflected first off Samb, then Okey, and behind Thuresson's right shoulder.
Â
•
Northeastern (24th minute): Moustapha Samb led a Northeastern counter through the midfield and towards the left corner of the Huskies' 18-yard box. Samb fed a quick pass to
Dan Munch, who completed the give-and-go with an immediate touch back to Samb, setting up Samb's 25-yard, left-to-right strike to level the match at 1-1.
