BOSTON, Mass. -- After consecutive victories against Maine and Harvard, the Northeastern women's soccer team will travel to the outskirts of Boston for a 1 p.m. match at Boston College on Sunday.
Week in Review
Following their first loss of the season, the Huskies bounced back in a big way with consecutive shutout wins over Maine and Harvard. NU used a pair of goals from senior
Carly Wilhelm and a strike from senior
Kayla Cappuzzo to claim victory over the Black Bears. On Tuesday, sophomore
Kerri Zerfoss and junior
Hannah Rosenblatt each netted a goal in a 2-0 win over the Crimson: Northeastern's first victory over Harvard in program history.
Shut 'em out
The Huskies notched their second consecutive shutout on Tuesday in their 2-0 win over the Crimson, marking their fourth clean sheet in five matches to start the year. They are gunning for the program best six shutouts in eight games that started the 2014 season. Junior
Nathalie Nidetch has stopped 13 out of 15 shots that have come her way so far this season.
Milestone Hunting
Three Huskies are closing in on impressive career milestones this season. Senior
Kayla Cappuzzo is five goals away from joining Northeastern's six-member 20-goal club. She is also three assists away from tying Liz Dyjak's school record of 19 career assists. Senior
Hannah Lopiccolo is also on the verge of 20 career goals. She's potted 17 goals in her time at Northeastern, including one already this season. Both Cappuzzo and Lopiccolo are sitting on 46 career points, only four away from reaching the 50-point plateau. Junior
Hannah Rosenblatt has scored twice this year to bring her career total to 16 goals. She's four goals away from reaching the 20-goal mark and would become the fourth player in Northeastern history to reach that mark before the end of her junior season.
Ware-ever You Need Her
After playing in 14 games in her freshman year at forward, sophomore
Olivia Ware has made the transition to playing on the back line. Since making the move to defense, Ware has become one of Northeastern's most trustworthy defenders. The Foothill Ranch, Calif. native has played at least 40 minutes in four of NU's first five matches, including a 90-minute effort at Boston University.
CAA Preseason Accolades
With another competitive conference season on the horizon, the CAA announced that Northeastern has been pegged to finish first with 81 votes as voted by the conference's coaches. William & Mary has jumped from its fifth place finish last season to second in this year's preseason poll with 69 votes. Drexel and James Madison tied for third in the poll with 56 votes each while Hofstra landed in fifth with 48 votes. UNCW, College of Charleston, Delaware, Elon and Towson rounded out the projected CAA standings.
In addition to the No. 1 spot in the poll, the Huskies had four student-athletes recognized for their prospective success in 2017.
Hannah Lopiccolo was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the All-CAA preseason team. Joining her on the preseason team are forwards
Kayla Cappuzzo and
Hannah Rosenblatt. Goalkeeper
Nathalie Nidetch earned an honorable mention from the CAA as one of the top netminders in the conference.
Scouting Boston College
A team that's had Northeastern's number since their very first match, the Boston College Eagles look to improve to 13-0-1 against the Huskies on Sunday. This season, they've worked their way to a (3-2-0) record through their first five matches. The Eagles have had no trouble finding the back of the net this season. They've scored 13 goals in five showings, including a 5-1 thrashing of Colgate.
