ZURICH, Switzerland – Former Northeastern women's ice hockey star Florence Schelling will travel to Pyeongchang, South Korea, next month to compete in her fourth Olympic Games, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced Monday. Schelling is the first Northeastern student-athlete in history to appear in four different Olympic Games.
Â
A native of Oberengstringen, Switzerland, Schelling has represented her home country in the Olympics since the Swiss first fielded a women's ice hockey team in the tournament in 2006. She made 28 saves during a medal-round game in Sochi in 2014, helping to lift her team – including fellow Northeastern ice hockey alumna Julia Marty – over Sweden to the bronze medal, the first women's ice hockey podium appearance for Switzerland in Olympic history.  Following the Olympics, Schelling was named the MVP of the 2014 women's ice hockey tournament by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
Â
Schelling graduated from Northeastern in 2013 as the program's leader in single-season save percentage (.950 during 2011-12 to lead the nation), minutes played (5,878:40), goals against average (1.74), saves (2,681) and save percentage (.940). After a senior campaign that saw her post a goals against average (1.42) that ranked second nationally – coupled with eight shutouts to rank third – Schelling was named a 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist and was the Hockey East Player of the Year following a unanimous vote.
Â
After collecting a season-high 43 saves against Boston University to bring home the Huskies' first Beanpot trophy of the millennium (2012), Schelling was honored with the Joe Bertagna Award as the tournament's top goaltender. She also earned numerous league and conference honors throughout her career, including a selection to the ECAC All-New England team and two Hockey East first-team selections.
Â
In addition to skating with the Swiss National Team, Schelling is currently a member of Linköpings HC in the Swedish Hockey League.
Â
Schelling is one of three Northeastern women's hockey alumnae that will be represented in the upcoming Olympic Games, joining former teammate and two-time United States Olympian Kendall Coyne '16, as well as Hockey Canada head coach Laura Schuler '94.Â
