PHILADELPHIA – As usual in the Daskalakis Athletic Center the game came down to the final seconds, but this time Drexel was able to come away with a 68-67 win, their first over the Northeastern men's basketball team since the 2014-15 season.
Â
Vasa Pusica finished with 20 points and seven assists,
Tomas Murphy added 16 and six rebounds and
Shawn Occeus finished with seven and a career-high tying five steals but it wasn't enough as the team was held scoreless in the final 1:52 of the game, while Drexel was able to creep back in and win.
Â
The game winning free throw was made with 1.6 seconds left.
Bolden Brace went for a rebound of a Tramaine Isabell free throw miss, ultimately getting tied up with Isabell (21 points, seven rebounds, four assists) on a 50-50 play where the Husky sophomore was called for the foul. Isabell made 1-of-2 free throws in three-straight trips to the line as he helped Drexel to the win.
Â
After an errant buzzer call following Isabell's miss, the Huskies had .7 seconds to try and win it. Brace sent a pass right to Pusica, who threw up a three with Isabell all over him, but it didn't connect.
Â
In the first half, the Huskies used three-straight and-one opportunities, including back-to-back buckets by Murphy to go on a 9-0 run in the middle of the first half and take a 27-20 lead, the greatest separation between the two teams in the first half.
Â
Following the Husky run, Drexel went on an 8-0 run of its own. Northeastern was 0-for-6 from the field with four turnovers in a five-and-half minute stretch, before Pusica ended the drought with yet another and-one.
Â
The Huskies had control the majority of the second half, earning as much as a seven-point lead following an Occeus and-one. But the Dragons were able to get back in the game as they improved their record to 7-3 at home this season.
