BOSTON – Leading 1-0 through 40 minutes, the No. 18 Northeastern men's hockey team (3-2-0, 1-0-0) scored three times during a dominating third period to open the Hockey East slate with a 4-1 victory at UMass Lowell (2-3-0, 0-1-0) on Friday night at the Tsongas Center.
A pair of
Patrick Schule goals bookended tallies from
Zach Solow and
Grant Jozefek to improve the Huskies to 3-0-0 on the road for the first time since 2007.
John Picking and
Jeremy Davies added two assists, apiece, while
Cayden Primeau made 16 stops in goal.
NU jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Schule's first of the season less than seven minutes into the game when he beat UML goaltender Tyler Wall (23 saves) after Picking pinched in to keep the puck in the attacking zone. Solow would extend the lead to two early in the third period when he pounded home his second of the year on a loose puck in the slot.
The River Hawks cut the deficit to one 8:45 into the third period on Connor Sodergren's first of the year, but Jozefek stole any momentum right back just 26 seconds later with his third of the season before Schule added an insurance marker with an empty netter late.
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow night when Northeastern hosts No. 2/3 St. Cloud State at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting tickets.GoNU.com.
