GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With senior point guard
Jess Genco draining a program record, eight 3-point field goals, the Northeastern women's basketball team defeated its first power-five school as a CAA member on Wednesday night as the Huskies upended the Florida Gators in the swamp, 79-66, at Exactech Arena.

Genco scored a game high, 26 points, to lead Northeastern (6-0), which is off to its second best regular season start during program history, chasing the 7-0 start of its 1968-69 team. The veteran sharpshooter bookended her night with three triples during the opening and closing quarters in addition to finishing with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Shannon Todd connected on three of the Huskies' 13 3-pointers, which equated to a season high – two shy of the program record that NU set during the 2017-18 season at Vermont.
Ayanna Dublin recovered from early foul trouble to post 14 points and five rebounds while
Gabby Giacone tallied six points and nine boards as well.

Stella Clark and
Courtney Redcross contributed eight points apiece off the Huskies' bench.

Northeastern led Florida (0-6) for nearly 34 minutes of game time, shooting above 50 percent from the field (51) for the third time during its current six-game winning streak.

The Huskies opened the contest with a 13-4 scoring run during the first five minutes of play, carrying a six-point lead (19-13) into the second quarter, where the Gators narrowed the NU advantage to 33-31 by halftime.

Northeastern moved in front for the final time with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter, when Genco's fifth 3-pointer broke the game's 37-37 tie. The Huskies later distanced themselves from a two-point game (60-58) with eight minutes left in regulation with another of the senior's perimeter makes.

Funda Nakkasoglu led Florida with 23 points, dropping five 3-pointers. Delicia Washington also finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Gators.

Northeastern will look to tie the program record for best regular season start on Sunday, Dec. 2, when the Huskies welcome Massachusetts to Cabot Center for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
