BOSTON – Facing its second top 15 mid-major test during as many games, the Northeastern women's basketball team rose up to the challenge of hosting Maine on Saturday afternoon at Cabot Center, finding success on both sides of the ball as the Huskies prevailed, 63-55, during their non-conference finale.

With the victory, Northeastern (10-1) improved its program record for the most wins achieved before the turn of the calendar year. The Huskies will break for 13 days before opening CAA play at home on Friday, Jan. 4, against Elon.

Ayanna Dublin enjoyed a well-rounded stat line while co-leading Northeastern to victory on Saturday. The NU forward notched her second career double-double by combining 11 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Gabby Giacone matched Dublin's interior presence, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds and a steal. Together, the duo helped Northeastern achieve the 32-26 edge in points in the paint and +18 rebounding margin.

Pacing the Huskies' scorers for the third time this season, Stella Clark contributed 15 points on six-for-10 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds. Jess Genco also totaled eight points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Northeastern shot 54 percent during the first quarter and carried the 15-13 lead into the second period, where Maine (7-4) established the 27-23 advantage with 5:33 to play. However, the Huskies' defense responded by effectively shutting down the Black Bears, denying the visitors a point during the remainder of the half as NU built the 36-27 halftime lead (13-0 run).

Giacone provided Northeastern with its first double-digit lead less than two minutes into the third quarter. Although Maine would pull to within four points at 40-36 with 3:39 to go, Katie May answered with a 3-pointer to strengthen the Huskies' edge.

Northeastern created its largest lead (58-46) midway through the fourth quarter upon staging a 9-2 scoring run.

Tanesha Sutton and Bianca Millian posted 22 and 11 points, respectively, for the Black Bears. Kelly Fogarty also scored eight points off the bench.

NOTEWORTHY
• Northeastern limited Maine to four 3-point field goals during Saturday's contest. The Black Bears had entered the day ranked 25th among Division I programs in 3-point field goals per game (9.1).
