BOSTON – Owners of the longest winning streak in the nation, the No. 11/12 Northeastern men's hockey team returns to the ice this weekend for the Catamount Cup at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt. The Huskies will battle RPI on Friday afternoon before taking on Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday. Both games this weekend are at 4 p.m.

Hitting their stride
The Huskies were 5-1-1 in November, the most wins in that month since the 2008-09 season. Northeastern then went into the break with a 7-2 win at Merrimack, giving the Huskies 10 victories before Christmas for the second straight season and fourth time in the last 10 years.

Offensive onslaught
Northeastern's nine goals on Nov. 30 were the most since on Feb. 13, 2015 vs. UConn (9-0). The Huskies also potted nine on two other occasions (Oct. 11 vs. UAH, Dec. 2 at Notre Dame) since scoring 10 on Oct. 11, 2002 vs. UConn.Â

Their 16 goals in the last two games in the most in consecutive games since Northeastern also scored 16 combined in back-to-back games during the 1992-93 season.

Overall NU is averaging 4.00 goals per game this season, good for third in the NCAA.

Primeau and Madden named to WJC roster
For the first time in program history, two members of the Northeastern hockey team will represent the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championships after sophomore
Cayden Primeau and freshman
Tyler Madden were named to the final roster on Dec. 23. In addition, Northeastern associate head coach
Jerry Keefe will serve as an assistant coach on the United States staff.

Madden had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in Team USA's 2-1 victory over Slovakia on Wednesday. The team is back in action on Friday against Kazakhstan.

The Ruck stops here
Senior goaltender
Ryan Ruck made his return to the Northeastern net during the third period of the Nov. 30 win against Merrimack. It was Ruck's first action since Nov. 28, 2017, and he made three saves.

Ruck is 42-27-8 in three-plus seasons at Northeastern, good for fifth all-time in wins in school history, and guided the Huskies to the 2016 Hockey East Championship.

Two players enter Friday's game riding career-long point streaks:
Brandon Hawkins (seven games: 3-7--10) and
Zach Solow (six games: 7-2--9).

Defenseman
Ryan Shea was a game-high +6 on Nov. 30 against Merrimack. Since 2002, the only players to come close to that were
Garret Cockerill (Nov. 28, 2015 vs. Colgate) and Jason Guerriero (Dec. 29, 2003 vs. Mercyhurst), both of whom were a +5.

Shea followed that up with a +3 performance at Merrimack the following week, and is tied for third in the NCAA overall with a +15 rating.Â

With Big Three of
Adam Gaudette,
Dylan Sikura and
Nolan Stevens gone, the big question entering the season was "who is going to score for Northeastern?" The Huskies answered that question: everyone.

Through the first two months of the season, seven players are within four points of the team's scoring lead, currently held by
Grant Jozefek (10 goals, six assists).
Brandon Hawkins (14 points),
Tyler Madden (14 points) and
Jeremy Davies (14 points) trail close behind, while
Zach Solow (13 points),
John Picking (12 points) and
Liam Pecararo (11 points) are all in the hunt.

Northeastern has 15 different goal scorers through 14 games, the most for the team since 2013-14. NU had 19 different goal scorers in 38 games last season, and 17 in 38 games the year prior.

Tyler Madden, meanwhile, is the first Northeastern rookie since Scott Selig (2000) to start his career with goals in three straight games, and is one of five players in the NCAA with goals in his first three games.Â

One forward who has stood out in particular for the Huskies this season is junior
Grant Jozefek, who is tied for 10th in the NCAA with 10 goals.

Jozefek is one of just three Huskies since 2012 to score nine goals in his first 14 games of the season, joining
Zach Aston-Reese (2016-17) and
Kevin Roy (2013-14). Aston-Reese went on to score 30 while Roy potted 19.

Lock down defense
The Huskies, who are tied for third in Hockey East and tied for 16th in the NCAA with 2.36 goals against per game, have some of the best defensemen in the nation on their roster this season, led by 2018 First Team All-American
Jeremy Davies. Davies is currently tied for 13th in the nation in points from defensemen with four goals and 11 assists and fifth in points per game among blueliners (1.15).Â

Davies has five points (1-4--5) in his last three games.

Davies is also one of six returning players who were named First Team All-Americans last season: Matthew Galajda (Cornell), Adam Fox (Harvard), Cale Morris (Notre Dame), Scott Perunovich (Minnesota Duluth), Jimmy Schuldt (St. Cloud State).Â

Davies is joined by
Ryan Shea, a trustworthy defenseman who is a key component of the penalty killing unit that is clicking at 85.1%. Shea's already tied for 37th in the NCAA with 29 blocks this year, which is tied for the Hockey East lead.

Captain
Eric Williams joins Davies and Shea as one of the most seasoned Huskies on the roster. Williams has yet to miss a game in three-plus years, playing in 131 straight contests, the third most among all returning players in the NCAA. Williams is on pace to break the program record for career games played (Wade MacLeod, 149), and is third on the team with 17 blocks this season.
