BOSTON– The conference season continues for the Northeastern men's basketball team when they play host to Delaware on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Matthews Arena on NESNPlus.
The Huskies will look for their fourth-straight victory over the Blue Hens after coming away with a season sweep, as well as a conference tournament victory over Delaware last season.
Here is what you need to know about Sunday's game
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- Flying the Coop
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
- Delaware finished the non-conference season with a 8-5 record but fell in its first game of the conference season and enter the game with the Huskies on a three-game losing streak
- The Blue Hens are 4-3 on the road this season, with their road wins coming at St. Peter's, Cornell, UMES and Columbia, with a pair of those wins coming in overtime
- Delaware fell 91-46 in the CAA opener on Friday night at Hofstra
LEADING THE WAY
- Delaware is led by redshirt senior Eric Carter who is averaging 18.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game
- Also netting double figures are three more Blue Hens including Ithiel Horton (12.7, 3.1 rpg), Kevin Anderson (11.8), and Ryan Allen (11.0)
- Anderson is leading the way with 62 assists this year
ALL-TIME SERIES
- This will be the 56th meeting between the two teams in a series that Delaware leads 28-27
- The Huskies have won seven out of the last eight contests between the two team, including all three last season
- Last season, Northeastern came away with a 12-point victory at home, barely came away with a three-point victory at Delaware and trounced the Blue Hens in the CAA Tournament, 74-50
LAST TIME VS. DELAWARE
- Vasa Pusica finished with a near triple-double, Maxime Boursiquot tied his career-high with 17 points, Bolden Brace added 13 second-half points and Anthony Green finished with his fourth career 10-rebound game as the Huskies advanced onto the CAA Semifinals with a 74-50 victory over Delaware at the North Charleston Coliseum
- The win marked the eight-straight for the Huskies, tying the 10th longest streak in school history and the sixth longest current win-streak in the nation
- Also with the victory, 2018 CAA Coach of the Year Bill Coen picked up win No. 200, just the third coach in Northeastern history to hit the milestone (Jim Calhoun, 250; Dick Dukeshire, 204)
- Delaware was led by Ryan Daly who finished with nearly half of the Blue Hen points, putting up 23 on the night to go along with eight rebounds
- Eric Carter was the only other Delaware player with a double-digit scoring effort finishing with 10
- CAA Rookie of the Year Ryan Allen had just five on the day with CAA Defensive Player of the Year Shawn Occeus (six points, two assists) guarding him
- A Trio of Scorers
- On Friday night against Drexel, Northeastern was led by three 20-point efforts from Vasa Pusica, Jordan Roland and Anthony Green
- Pusica finished with 29 points on the night while Roland and Green each netted 21, the first time in nearly 12 years that a Husky trio has each finished with 20+ points
- That last outing came on Dec. 31, 2006 at Boston College when Bennet Davis (27), Matt Janning (21) and Eugene Spates (20) achieved the feat during Bill Coen's first season as head coach of the Huskies
- Nearly Perfect
- Anthony Green's 21-point effort against Drexel was highlighted by a 9-of-10 night from the field
- Green, who is shooting 73.6 percent from the field this season, finished the night shooting 90 percent from the field, with his lone miss coming midway through the second half
- That 90 percent shooting effort ranked seventh best in program history (min. 8 made)
