FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Led by Stella Clark's 18 points off the bench, the Northeastern women's basketball team set the outright program record for best regular season start on Wednesday night against Fairfield, improving to 8-0 courtesy of its 59-50 victory at Alumni Hall.

Clark earned eight of her 18 points from the foul line and delivered 10 first half points for the Huskies, who are now one win shy of tying the program's longest winning streak – nine – set by their 1998-99 NCAA tournament team.

Northeastern opened the game with 10 unanswered points during the first four minutes after tipoff, cruising to the 15-3 lead with 3:56 remaining during the first quarter. Six different Huskies accounted for the team's first six field goals.

NU exercised as high as a 14-point edge during the first half before ducking into the locker room with the 32-20 advantage. Fairfield (2-6) narrowed the Huskies' lead to 32-25 less than 90 seconds into the second half, but the Huskies responded with their second 10-0 run of the night to pull in front, 42-25, with 4:45 left in the third quarter.

Likewise, the Stags started the fourth quarter with their 10-0 scoring run, which closed the door to five points (45-40) with 3:39 remaining in regulation. Shannon Todd finally managed to put NU on the scoreboard with 3:12 to play while the Huskies navigated the back-and-forth final minutes, always preserving their two-possession edge.

Todd finished with 10 points to lead Northeastern's starters, in addition to pacing the squad in rebounding (six). Gabby Giacone paired nine points with four rebounds while Jess Genco tallied six points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals during 37 minutes of action.

Casey Foley, Sam Kramer and Katie Armstrong led Fairfield in scoring, posting 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
