BOSTON – Northeastern women's soccer alumna Kimberly Slade will run the Boston Marathon this spring with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute team. Slade helped the Huskies capture three CAA championships during her playing career (2013-16) and will graduate from Northeastern this spring after majoring in communications with a minor in health science.

Slade took a serious interest in running for Dana-Farber after accepting a co-op position with the Institute in Fall 2017. During her time on co-op, Slade worked in the Division of Development with the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk Team and met a 24-year-old co-worker who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

"Her story, along with the many others that I heard at Dana-Farber, motivated me to do my part to help those battling the disease," Slade explained. "The people I have met taught me a new perspective on life and to make the most of any situation I might find myself in. Without my co-op at Dana-Farber, I never would have met the group I now call a second family; I never would have had the opportunity or the reason to run for their marathon team."

Slade's goal for this year's marathon is to raise $10,000 for Dana-Farber and cancer research. All funds raised will go directly to the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.
