HARRISONBURG, Va. – Despite rookie
Jasmin Watson's career-high, 11-point outing, the Northeastern women's basketball team did not have enough firepower to duel with James Madison on Friday night at the Convocation Center, where the first-place Dukes defeated the fourth-place Huskies, 72-43.
Â
Northeastern (12-11, 7-5 CAA) received the bulk of its scoring and minutes from its bench, which totaled all but 10 of the Huskies' points on Friday. Watson knocked down two of her three 3-point attempts and went five-for-six at the free throw line, where NU collectively shot 11-for-15.
Â
James Madison (15-8, 11-1 CAA) began the game with an 18-0 scoring run that lasted six and a half minutes until Watson chimed in with her first two free throws of the night. The Huskies trailed, 22-7, at the end of the first quarter and were unable to outscore the Dukes during the second through fourth stanzas.
Â
Jess Genco registered seven points, two rebounds, and two assists, despite playing a career low, 24 minutes.
Te'Erica Eason sported eight points off the Huskies' bench, also accounting for three of Northeastern's six steals.
Stella Clark finished with six points, seven rebounds, and an assist, while
Maureen Taggart recorded five points and two boards.
Â
Kamiah Smalls, Kelly Koshuta, and Lexie Barrier each tallied double-digit points for the Dukes.
