BOSTON --  No. 7 Northeastern hosts a Hockey East quarterfinal series for the first time since 2009 this weekend when the Huskies battle Massachusetts in a best-of-three series at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern enters the Hockey East postseason as the No. 2 seed for just the second time in program history, and first since 2009. The Huskies ended the regular season with four straight league wins to finish with 15 victories in Hockey East play for the third time in program history. Northeastern is hosting a quarterfinal series for the first time since 2009, which was also against UMass. The Huskies won the series in three games thanks to an Alex Tuckerman overtime goal in the only other postseason meeting between the two schools.

Northeastern in the Hockey East quarterfinals
The Huskies are back in the conference quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years, and 25th time in team history. Northeastern is 17-33 all-time in quarterfinal matchups, including a 2-1 mark against Massachusetts. The Huskies are looking to advance to the Hockey East semifinals for the second time in three seasons and ninth time in team history.

Winningest class in Northeastern hockey history
Northeastern's senior class has helped lead Northeastern to 77 victories, making them the winningest class in team history. They've also helped the Huskies to their first Hockey East title in 28 years, fifth NCAA appearance and the program's first Beanpot title since 1988.

Home sweet home
Northeastern is 12-4-2 at Matthews Arena, tied for the seventh most home wins in the NCAA and tied for the second most home wins in program history. The Huskies average 4.22 goals/game at home, fourth in the nation and outscore opponents by an average of 2.00 goals per game (second in the NCAA).

Northeastern's Big 3 have done a lot of their work at home this season:
• Adam Gaudette has 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists), tied for the most home points in the nation

• Dylan Sikura has 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists), tied for second in the nation in home points.

• Nolan Stevens has 13 goals, tied for the fourth most home goals in the nation

Gaud Is Good
Adam Gaudette leads the nation in both overall scoring (56 points) and goals (29). His 18 multi-point games are the most in college hockey, and he's one of 19 players in the nation over the last six seasons to reach at least 55 points.

Gaudette is one goal away from becoming the 11th player in team history to score 30 in a season, and the seventh in the NCAA since the 2012-13 season.

Gaudette's done damage when it matters most. He's either scored or assisted on 15 of Northeastern's last 29 game winning goals (six goals, nine assists), dating back to last season, including 10 of the team's 21 wins this year (four goals, six assists).

Gaudette's third in career scoring among active players with 138 points. His 67 career goals and his 32 PPG lead all active players. He also has points in 17 of his last 20 games (21 goals, 17 assists), including seven straight games with a goal, one shy of a career-long.

Since 2012-13, only three players have record 50+ points in consecutive seasons: Gaudette, Boston College's Johnny Gaudreau and St. Lawrence's Greg Carey.

Gaudette captured the Hockey East regular season scoring title with 33 points (19 goals, 14 assists) in conference play. He is the first Husky to win the scoring crown since Jason Guerriero in 2004-05. Of Hockey East's nine Hobey Baker Award winners, five won the conference scoring title (Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau, Jason Krog, Paul Kariya, David Emma).

Dynamic duo
Junior Adam Gaudette and senior Dylan Sikura and have picked up right where they left off a season ago, recording 56 and 48 points apiece, respectively, making Northeastern one of two teams in the NCAA to have two players with at least 45 points this season (Princeton).

They've combined for the highest points per game average among two teammates in the NCAA this season at 3.06 (points/team games played).

In the 90 games that the two have played on the same line, Gaudette and Sikura have combined for 222 points (Gaudette: 55-55-110; Sikura: 40-72-112), leading NU to a 52-26-12 record in those games.

Gaudette and Sikura joined an elite group of Huskies earlier this season: only 10 players in Northeastern history have recorded 100 points over two seasons. Since Jan. 1, Gaudette leads the nation with 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists), while Sikura is fourth in overall scoring and assists (eight goals, 18 assists).

He's Sik
Senior Dylan Sikura is second among active players in the nation with 140 career points, and is currently tied for third in the nation with 48 points (17 goals, 31 assists) in 31 games this season (1.55 points per game; tied for third in the NCAA). His 31 helpers are fifth in the country, and is currently second in the NCAA with 5.10 shots/game.

What's most impressive about Sikura is his steady progression throughout his career at Northeastern. He went from a seven-point in 25-game freshman campaign to 28 points as a sophomore before a breakout 57-point junior season. 105 of Sikura's 140 career points (75%) have come in his last 69 games (1.52 points per game).

Sikura's electric start to the season made him the first player since 2012-13 to record a multi-point effort in each of his team's first six games, and one of two players in the nation to reach 14 points in that span since 2012-13.

Captain Comeback
Nolan Stevens is third on the team with 38 points (21 goals, 17 assists), and has goals in 15 of his last 27 games. Stevens has points in 30 of his last 45 games (28 goals, 27 assists), dating back to last season.

Stevens' 20-goal season as a sophomore in 2015-16 make him one of just 16 active players in the NCAA, along with Gaudette and Sikura in 2016-17 with a 20-goal season to his credit. He's the 17th Husky since 1953, and second this season (Gaudette), with a pair of 20-goal seasons on his collegiate resume.

After potting a career-high four points (three goals, one assist) on Jan. 20, he is one of nine players in the country with two hat tricks this season.

Prime'd for success
Freshman Cayden Primeau has acclimated himself to the college game, earning starts in 28 of Northeastern's 34 games and posting a 17-6-5 mark, already tied for the sixth most in Northeastern single-season history. The Voorhees, N.J. native is fifth in save percentage (.933) and fourth in goals against average (1.85). He is one of two rookie netminders with 17 victories in the NCAA.

Primeau has allowed one goal or fewer in 16 games this season, the most for a Northeastern team since the 2008-09 season. He's also tied for 10th in the nation with three shutouts, and tied the program record for freshman shutouts, set by Brad Thiessen in 2006-07, on Feb. 24 at UNH.

Primeau was named the Hockey East Goaltending Champion at the conclusion of the regular season. He is the first Husky to be the goaltending champion since Brad Thiessen in 2008-09. He's also the fifth freshman in conference history to win, and first since Thatcher Demko in 2013-14.

He, with Gaudette, marked the first time since 2013-14 (Boston College's Johnny Gaudreau and Thatcher Demko), and 16th time in Hockey East history, that one team had both the scoring champion and goaltending champion in the same season.

Secondary scoring
With 67 of Northeastern's 122 goals this season coming off the sticks of Adam Gaudette, Nolan Stevens and Dylan Sikura, much has been said about the Huskies' secondary scoring. In recent weeks, though, Northeastern's other three forward lines have come alive with 11 goals in the last five games, including game-winning tallies from Trevor Owens, John Picking, Biagio Lerario and Brandon Schultz.
