Women's hockey unveils competitive 2018-19 schedule

2018-19 Schedule  |  2017-18 Season in Review

BOSTON – The Northeastern women's hockey program and head coach Dave Flint announced a competitive 2018-19 schedule on Friday. The 33-game slate is highlighted by matchups against both of last season's national finalists – including two games against Clarkson in Belfast, Northern Ireland – as well as 27 contests against Hockey East competition.

"We have an exciting and challenging non-conference schedule this year, playing against the two teams that contested last year's national championship," Flint explained. "We are thrilled to be playing the first-ever women's NCAA game on European soil when we go to Belfast over the new year to take on two-time defending national champion Clarkson. We believe these games will prepare us for an always-difficult Hockey East conference schedule."

The 2018-19 season begins with a pair of exhibition contests at Matthews Arena vs. the NWHL's Boston Pride (Sept. 22) and Concordia University (Sept. 29). The first regular season game is scheduled for Oct. 5 against rival Boston University at Matthews Arena.

Non-Conference Highlights
• The Huskies are scheduled to play six non-conference games in 2018-19, beginning on Oct. 12-13 when the Huskies welcome Colgate to Matthews Arena for a pair of games. This will be a rematch of last season's NCAA tournament matchup in which the Raiders prevailed, 3-1. Colgate went on to play for the national championship before falling in overtime against Clarkson.
• For the second straight year, NU will take on the defending national champions when the Huskies travel overseas to face Clarkson in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Jan. 5-6. The teams met twice at Matthews Arena last season with the first game ending in a 1-1 tie and the second matchup favoring Clarkson, 5-1.
• The final two non-conference games will take place during the 41st Women's Beanpot on Feb. 5-12 at Harvard University. Northeastern is set to face rival Boston University at 5 p.m. to open the tournament.

Hockey East Highlights
• The landscape of Hockey East will change once again in 2018-19 as Holy Cross joins the league as the newest member. Northeastern will face the Crusaders for the first time as a league opponent on Nov. 2 in Worcester, before contesting a home-and-home series on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
• Northeastern will face Boston University three times in the first eight contests of the season, including the first two regular season games of the campaign on Oct. 5-6.
• The Huskies will renew their rivalry against cross-town foe Boston College on Nov. 27 at Matthews Arena, before taking on the Eagles again during a home-and-home series on Jan. 11-12.
• The first rematch of the 2018 Hockey East championship game will take place on Jan. 18 at Matthews Arena when NU welcomes UConn to Boston.
• Merrimack is the last league team the Huskies will face this season with the first of three scheduled meetings set for Feb. 8 at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern returns 17 letterwinners from last year's Hockey East championship team and will welcome eight talented newcomers to the fold, including players from four different countries, in the 2018 recruiting class.
