BOSTON – Get out those calendars because the Northeastern men's basketball team's 18-game conference schedule is here, and it is extended, starting (Dec. 28) and ending (March 2) against Drexel before the Huskies head back down to Charleston for the 2019 CAA Tournament.
This season marks the first time in program history that the Huskies will begin and end the CAA regular season against the same team, the third time in CAA play that Northeastern has kicked the year off against the Dragons and the first time doing so at Matthews Arena. Most recently, Northeastern has faced Drexel on the road to begin the 2017 conference season and took on the Dragons on Dec. 4, 2010 at the TD Garden. They have ended the year just once against Drexel in 2015-16.
This season will be the first of a five-year rotating conference schedule that pairs each school with a travel partner. With the exception of the opening weekend (Friday/Sunday), teams will compete in a Thursday/Saturday format that features back-to-back games at home or on the road.
During the two weeks (Jan. 5, Feb. 2) when the Huskies faces their travel partner, Hofstra, both squads will have a bye on Thursday night before playing on Saturday.
As seen last season, the four-day CAA Men's Basketball Championship will be a Saturday-Tuesday affair as a part of the new agreement with CBS Sports Network to televise the semifinals and finals for the next three years. The Championship will take place in North Charleston for the final time in 2019.
