Huskies, Seahawks set for Saturday matinee

The Noon game will kick off a Matthews doubleheader with the men’s hockey team taking on No. 1 UMass Saturday night at 7 p.m.

BOSTON– The Northeastern men's basketball team is looking for its fourth-straight victory when they return to action on Saturday afternoon at Noon against UNCW. 
 
The game will be broadcast live on NESNPlus and will kick start a men's basketball/men's hockey doubleheader at Matthews Arena on Saturday. 
 
Northeastern is coming off of a 69-60 upending of the College of Charleston on Thursday night and with the win are now in sole possession of third place in the CAA standings.
 
Here is what you need to know about Saturday's game:
 
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
 
  1. Huskies vs. Seahawks
 
  • UNCW enters Saturday's game with the Huskies coming off of a 87-72 loss to Hofstra
  • The Seahawks are 2-6 away from home this season, but both of those wins have come in conference action
  • UNCW is an even 3-3 in conference play this season
 
LEADING THE WAY 
  • The Seahwaks are, once again, led by Devontae Cacok who is finally in his senior season at UNCW
  • Cacok is once again averaging a double-double, this time in the form of 14.9 ppg and 11.6 rpg
  • Adding to Cacok's totals are Jeantal Cylla (14.0 ppg) and Ty Gadsden (9.9 ppg)
  • Kai Toews leads the team, and conference with 146 assists this season
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
  • This will be the 26th meeting between the two teams in a series that Northeastern leads, 13-12
  • The Huskies snapped a four-game UNCW win-streak last season with an 81-77 overtime win in Wilmington and then continued on to sweep the Seahawks for the first time since the 2010-11 season with a 107-100 overtime victory in Boston, putting up the most points of the Bill Coen era during that game
  • The Huskies easily downed UNCW 79-52 in the CAA Semifinals to pick up their third-straight win over UNCW for the first time since 2010-11

  • Entering Saturday's game, Vasa Pusica is on somewhat of a little streak
  • Over the last three games, he has capitilized on every free throw attempt, hitting his last 16 in a row, including an 8-for-8 effort against Charleston (Jan. 17) last time out 
  • The streak commenced following a 1-for-4 night at Hofstra (Jan. 5)
