AMHERST, Mass. -- No. 1 Massachusetts (18-3-0, 10-1-0) used three first period goals and a 38-16 shot advantage to set the tone against the No. 8 Northeastern men's hockey team (14-5-1, 8-3-1) on Friday night at the Mullins Center, skating to a 6-1 victory over the Huskies.

The Minutemen struck three times in the first 13 minutes of the game on goals from Kurt Keats, Jacob Pritchard and Brett Boeing before adding two more in the middle frame off the sticks of Oliver Chau and Bobby Trivigno, prompting the Huskies to insert Ryan Ryan (15 saves) into the game in place of starter
Cayden Primeau (17 saves).Â

Massachusetts tacked on a sixth when Philip Latunov scored in the opening minute of the third period before the Huskies got on the board midway through the period with a power play strike from freshman
Tyler Madden off a rebound from a
Brandon Hawkins shot to extend his point streak to six games (three goals, seven assists).

UMass was 2-of-5 on the power play and won 33-of-58 faceoffs while NU was 1-of-3 on the man advantage. Matt Murray made 11 saves in goal before being replaced by Filip Linberg (four stops) after Murray was assessed a 10-minute misconduct in the third period.
