BELFAST, Northern Ireland – The No. 12 Northeastern men's hockey team (8-4-2, 5-3-2 Hockey East) returns to Belfast to take on the 2019 Friendship Four, Nov. 29-30. This marks the second time the Huskies have participated in the two-day Thanksgiving tournament, after competing in the tournament's inaugural season in 2015. This year, the Huskies open the weekend slate against Hockey East opponent New Hampshire (6-5-1, 3-3-0 Hockey East), before closing out the two-day series against either Colgate (4-6-4, 3-2-1 ECAC) or Princeton (1-4-3, 0-4-2 ECAC).

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Taming the Wildcats – The Huskies will open the 2019 Friendship Four against Hockey East foe New Hampshire, marking the first conference clash between the two teams since last season. Heading into the weekend, the Wildcats hold the 97-67-17 advantage in the all-time series, but the Huskies own a recent five-game win streak over the Wildcats, with four of the five victories coming from shutouts. Last time the teams met, Northeastern blanked New Hampshire, 4-0, at Matthews Arena.
In their last series in the States, the Wildcats split the weekend against Michigan, dropping a 4-1 decision, before bouncing back to claim a 3-2 OT win to close out the weekend. Leading New Hampshire in points, the trio of Max Gildon, Charlie Kelleher and Jackson Pierson each have 13 points apiece heading into the Thanksgiving weekend showdown. Pierson currently leads the team in assists with 11, while Gildon is tied for second in goals and Kelleher ranks fourth. On the goal-scoring front, Angus Crookshank leads the Wildcats with 7 goals this season. Between the pipes, Mike Robinson has started all but two contests for New Hampshire, posting a 2.18 GAA and a .916 win percentage.

2. Second round scenarios – After facing New Hampshire in the opening round of the Friendship Four, the Huskies will move on to either face ECAC opponents Princeton or Colgate in game two. Should the Huskies meet Princeton in the second round, it would mark the first time since 2011 that the two teams have met on the ice. The Huskies hold the advantage in the all-time series with the Tigers, going 25-12-3 since 1952.  So far this season, Princeton has posted a 1-4-3 (0-4-2 ECAC) record.

The Huskies also have the potential to face the Colgate Raiders for game 2 of the Friendship Four, which would mark the first time the teams have faced off since 2015 when the Huskies bested the Raiders, 7-1. Going into the weekend, Colgate holds a 4-6-4 (3-2-1 ECAC) record, and is coming off a recent 3-1 win over conference opponent Quinnipiac.

3. Madd Hatter - Sophomore scoring sensation Tyler Madden put on a show for the home crowd last weekend, posting a hat trick and an assist in the Huskies' 5-2 victory over Hockey East rivals Maine. With his three goals, the Deerfield Beach, Fla.-native secured his first career hat trick and finished the night with a team-high four points. The sophomore's four-point showing matched a career-high in points set last season at Merrimack, when Madden recorded a goal and a trio of assists in the Huskies 7-2 win on the road. Madden is now tied for first in the nation in goal scoring (11) and tied for fifth in the NCAA in points (19). Madden's five-point weekend also landed him Hockey East Player of the Week honors as well as the NCAA Second Star of the Week.
