BOSTON – Squaring off against its second Hockey East opponent of the 2019-20 season, the No. 13 Northeastern men's hockey team will open a home-and-home series against Merrimack on Friday, Nov. 8, when the Huskies visit the Warriors at Lawler Rink. The two programs will then switch venues on Saturday, Nov. 9, to Matthews Arena. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1.Â
Series Edge:Â Northeastern is looking to continue its recent series dominance against Merrimack after the Huskies witnessed their eight-game series unbeaten streak come to an end on Jan. 5, 2019, at Matthews Arena. NU combined to outscore the Warriors, 16-4, across the two programs' three Hockey East meetings last season, earning comfortable, 9-1 and 7-2 victories before skating to the 1-0 defeat in January, during which Northeastern outshot Merrimack, 42-22. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 58-43-11.
Â
2.Â
You Look Familiar:Â Friday's weekend opener between the Huskies and the Warriors will mark the first time that Northeastern's fifth-year transfer goaltenderÂ
Craig Pantano will oppose his former program. After making 47 career appearances across four seasons at Merrimack, Pantano has since made eight starts for the Huskies this year, registering a .922 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average. The Bridgewater, Massachusetts, native has allowed fewer than two goals during four of his eight NU appearances, including one-goal defensive efforts against then-No. 4 Massachusetts and then-No. 14 St. Cloud State.
Â
3.Â
On the Penalty Kill:Â Northeastern enters the weekend with the 10th best penalty kill unit among NCAA Division I programs. The Huskies have successfully negated all but two of their 30 opposing power play chances for a penalty kill percentage of 93.3 percent. NU went six-for-seven in penalty kills during its most recent Hockey East weekend against No. 3 Massachusetts.
