CAA release
RICHMOND, Va. – After co-leading the Northeastern women's basketball team to the 60-47 win against Hartford on Saturday at Cabot Center,
Stella Clark and
Mossi Staples have been named the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Monday.
Â
Clark notched the game high, 17 points, as Northeastern (3-6) sported its third straight victory, defeating the Hawks in wire-to-wire fashion. The junior from Sea Girt, New Jersey, shot five-for-nine from the field, burying three 3-pointers for the Huskies while hitting four of her five free throw attempts. She also tracked down the team high, six rebounds, helping NU set season highs in total rebounds (45) and offensive boards (24).
Â
Monday's CAA weekly recognition comes as a first for Clark since her incredible rookie 2017-18 campaign, during which she was a five-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection and earned placement onto the year-end CAA All-Rookie Team. Through nine starts as Northeastern's point guard this season, she leads the squad in points (14.1), assists (3.6) and minutes (33.3) per game, ranking in a tie for third among CAA players in 3-point field goals per outing (2.0).
Â
Staples logged the best performance of her freshman campaign against Hartford, elevating her rookie season highs to five points and four rebounds across 13 minutes of action. The Fort Washington, Maryland, native played a key role in the Huskies' defensive showcase, registering two steals and drawing two offensive fouls – including a fourth-quarter charge that halted the Hawks' comeback bid.
Â
Clark and Staples will return to the floor with Northeastern on Saturday, Dec. 21, when the Huskies look to extend their winning streak at Maine. Saturday's game at the Cross Insurance Center in Orono will tip-off at 1 p.m. and air live on ESPN+.
