CHARLESTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team connected on a season-high 15 three-pointers, but came up just short in an 88-79 overtime setback at Charleston on Saturday night at TD Arena.
Vasa Pusica led the Huskies (16-10, 10-4 CAA) with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, while
Bolden Brace added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Charleston's Grant Riller led all scorers with 33 points, including 10 in overtime, as the Cougars (21-7, 10-5 CAA) outscored the Huskies by a 19-10 margin during the extra session. Jarrell Brantley was the only other Charleston player in double-figures as he added 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Northeastern led 38-36 at halftime and pulled out to a 10-point lead on a Pusica three, 48-38, with 14:09 to play.
The Cougars turned the tides with a 13-0 run to claim a 55-52 lead with 7:24 remaining, and neither team led by more than four the rest of the way.
With Charleston ahead 69-65 with one minute to go in regulation, the Huskies battled back to force OT on two clutch free throws by
Anthony Green (10 points) and a tying layup by
Jordan Roland with 29 seconds on the clock.
Riller took over from there, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and nailing all four free throw attempts in overtime to lift Charleston to the win.
For the game, the Cougars shot 20-for-22 at the foul line, while NU was 6-for-9.
The Huskies will look to bounce back on Thursday against James Madison at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m.
