DURHAM, N.H. – Liam Pecararo's four-point night, including his first collegiate hat trick, five unanswered goals and 33 saves from
Cayden Primeau gave the No. 12/13 Northeastern men's hockey team (20-9-1, 12-7-1) a 6-3 victory on the road at New Hampshire (11-11-8, 7-8-5) on Friday night at the Whittemore Center.
The win gives Northeastern its 20thwin of the season, marking the first time in team history that the Huskies have recorded at least 20 victories in consecutive seasons. It's also Northeastern's 12thHockey East win of the year, just the eighth time in team history that the Huskies have won at least 12 league games.
Jeremy Davies,
Ryan Shea and
Matt Filipe (one goal, one assist) also scored for Northeastern while
Brandon Hawkins and
Zach Solow added two assists apiece.
UNH jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the opening frame when Brendan van Riemsdyk potted his eighth of the year beating Primeau before Davies converted on the power play five minutes later to level the score at one.
The Wildcats potted a pair of goals from Marcus Vela and van Riemsdyk in the first five minutes of the second period, but from there it was all Northeastern as Pecararo banged home a loose puck on the doorstep two minutes later to cut the deficit in half before Filipe tied the game with a shorthanded marker off a feed from Solow with 3:45 left in the frame. Pecararo would put the visitors up 4-3 in the final minute of the second period with a quick move through the crease to tuck a shot inside the left post for his second of the night.
Northeastern continued to press into the third period as Shea found the back of the net for the third time this season with less than five minutes left in regulation before Pecararo put the game on ice with an empty netter to complete the hat trick.
The Huskies and Wildcats will meet again tomorrow night at the Whittemore Center. Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m. on NESN.
