NEWARK, Del. – Vasa Pusica (22 points),
Jordan Roland (17 points) and
Bolden Brace (16 points) combined for 55 of Northeastern's 75 points as the Huskies held off Delaware, 75-64, on Thursday evening at Bob Carpenter Center.
Northeastern (19-10, 13-4 CAA) trailed only once in the game – 8-6 early in the first half – and held off a Delaware (16-14, 8-9 CAA) charge in the second stanza to earn its eighth win in the last nine games.
After the Huskies led 38-33 at halftime, the Blue Hens pulled within two on four different occasions in the second half, but could get no closer as Northeastern found an answer to curb Delaware's momentum.
A monster dunk and free throw by senior
Anthony Green (all nine points in the second half) at the 8:53 mark of the second half quieted the crowd and gave Northeastern a 53-48 lead. Green then hit consecutive shots in the paint, before assisting on a 3-pointer by Donnell Gresham to give the Huskies some breathing room on the scoresheet.
Pusica scored 10 points in the first half and 12 more after halftime, including a dagger 3-pointer with 1:13 to play to put NU up by 16 at 73-57.
The Huskies scored 18 points off 12 Delaware turnovers and tallied 18 assists on 27 field goals as NU shot 56 percent for the game (27-for-48).
Northeastern will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a road game against Drexel at 4 p.m.
