CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – With the score tied at one through two periods, Boston College (11-18-3, 10-9-3) struck early in the third period and weathered a late surge from the No. 9 Northeastern men's hockey team (21-10-1, 13-8-1) to hold on for the victory on Friday night at Conte Forum, 3-1.

Cayden Primeau kept the Huskies in the game all night, finishing with 30 saves for the ninth time this season while Austin Plevy scored the lone goal for the visitors, his fourth of the season and second against Boston College.

The loss, along with a UMass Lowell loss at New Hampshire, keeps Northeastern in a tie for third place in the Hockey East standings with 27 points. The Huskies can finish anywhere from second to seventh place in the final conference standings with two league games still to play.

After a scoreless first period, the Huskies drew first blood early in the second period when Plevy got a stick on a Liam Pecararo shot from the right circle, sneaking past BC goaltender Joseph Woll (21 saves) for the 1-0 lead. Jeremy Davies also assisted on the play, his team-leading 32ndpoint of the season to extend his point streak to a season-long five games (three goals, seven assists).

The Eagles leveled the game at one with 13:54 to play in the second on Casey Fitzgerald's second of the season, taking a feed from Chris Grando and rifling a shot top shelf for the score.

Boston College took its first lead of the game less than five minutes into the third period with Jack McBain intercepted a Northeastern clearing attempt, wheeling around the net for an initial shot that Primeau stopped, but Marc McLaughlin was there to bang home the rebound to make it 2-1.

Northeastern would pull Primeau in favor of the extra attacker with 1:20 left in regulation, but David Cotton was able to knock down a loose puck and deposit it in the empty net for his 19thof the year to put the game on ice.

The teams will close out the season series on Saturday night at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m. The Huskies are offering a ticket package for $20 to attend both the men's game and the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey playoff game against Vermont at 2 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting NUHuskies.com/tickets
