Northeastern to host NCAA tournament game against Cornell on Saturday

 NCAA Bracket

BOSTON – After winning its second Hockey East championship in as many seasons, the Northeastern women's hockey team was rewarded with its first-ever NCAA tournament home game and the No. 3 national seed as the Huskies will host No. 6 seed Cornell in the opening round on Saturday, March 16 at Matthews Arena at 1 p.m. Northeastern has appeared in the NCAA tournament in three of the last four seasons, but has never hosted a game until now.

The Huskies (27-5-5) won both the Hockey East regular season title and the Hockey East tournament crown in the same season for the first time in program history courtesy of a 3-2 overtime win over Boston College on Sunday. Senior Kasidy Anderson scored the game-winning goal and sophomore Aerin Frankel made 30 saves en route to tournament MVP honors.

Cornell (23-5-6) won the ECAC regular season title and advanced to the league championship game, before falling to Clarkson on Sunday by a 4-1 score. The Big Red boast the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation, averaging just 1.68 goals against per game.

Joining Northeastern and Cornell in the NCAA tournament are No. 1 seed Wisconsin vs. No. 8 Syracuse, No. 2 seed Minnesota vs. No. 7 Princeton, and No. 4 seed Clarkson vs. No. 5 Boston College.
