Recap
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Swinging for the fences on Wednesday during its first midweek game against New England competition, the Northeastern baseball team benefitted from four home runs – two off the bat of
Jake Farrell – to win a wild, back-and-forth contest against Hartford, 9-8, at Fiondella Field.
Farrell pounded a first-inning triple before slugging home runs during the second and fourth innings for Northeastern (6-9), which ended its four-game stretch without a victory. The senior first baseman tied the game at 8-8 during the sixth inning with his RBI single, finishing with four hits for the second time this season in addition to logging his first career mutli-homer outing.
Scott Holzwasser scored the eventual winning run for the Huskies during the top of the eighth inning, breaking the two team's 8-8 tie when he crossed the plate on
Corey DiLoreto's bases-loaded walk. Holzwasser homered to leadoff the game, foreshadowing solo homers by
Jared Dupere and Farrell that opened the second and third innings, respectively.
Senior closer
Andrew Misiaszek struck out the side during the bottom of the ninth inning to notch his 22nd career save, breaking the Northeastern all-time record.
Northeastern and Hartford (0-9) both scored during each of their first four offensive innings on Wednesday with the Hawks tacking on another run during the bottom of the fifth inning.
NU led, 4-2, prior to Ashton Bardzell's three-run homer during the third inning that put the home team in front, 5-4.
Ian Fair leveled the game at 5-5 with his fourth-inning RBI single, scoring on Farrell's second home run as the Huskies took the 7-5 edge.
Hartford responded with two runs to tie the game at 7-7 through four innings, later taking the 8-7 lead courtesy of Donnie Cohoon's fifth-inning RBI single.
Kyle Murphy set up Misiaszek with two scoreless relief innings, earning his first winning decision of 2019.
