BOSTON – In pursuit of the program's third 20-win season and its first-ever CAA postseason championship, the Northeastern women's basketball team will look to navigate through a challenging field this week at the 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championship (hosted by Delaware) as the NU aims to cut down the nets and punch its NCAA tournament ticket. The sixth-seeded Huskies will open the tournament during the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., when they will oppose third-seeded UNCW.

QUARTERFINAL PREVIEW
• Northeastern will be entering the CAA tournament during the quarterfinal round for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time during the last seven seasons.
• The Huskies' lone CAA quarterfinal win occurred during 2016, when sixth-seeded Northeastern upset third-seeded Hofstra, 65-54, to advance to the program's first-ever CAA semifinal. Three current NU players took the floor against the Pride that night in Upper Marlboro, Maryland: Jess Genco (19 points, 40 minutes), Gabby Giacone and Te'Erica Eason.
• Prior to Northeastern's double-digit upset of Hofstra, the Huskies had gone winless during six CAA quarterfinal games, all but one taking place against higher-seeded opposition.
• The Huskies split their regular season series against UNCW, countering their 83-70 defeat at Trask Coliseum on Feb. 3 with the dominant, 83-54 win at Cabot Center on March 1.
• As a team, Northeastern hit 13 3-pointers during its 29-point win against the Seahawks – the second largest CAA win ever attained under the leadership of fifth-year head coach Kelly Cole. Jess Genco led all scorers with 28 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field and six-for-10 behind the arc. The Huskies' +16 rebounding advantage marked their third highest of the 2018-19 season.
• Northeastern and UNCW will be meeting during the postseason for the second time during series history. As the No. 11 seed during the 2006 CAA tournament, the Huskies upset sixth-seeded UNCW, 63-54, during the first round at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia (hosted by George Mason).

GENCO NAMED TO ALL-CAA FIRST TEAM
• Senior point guard Jess Genco merited placement onto the All-CAA First Team for the second consecutive season.
• Genco is the first Northeastern player to be named to the All-CAA First Team during multiple seasons. She is also the program's fourth NU player to garner multiple all-conference First Team selections, joining the company of Carrine Jones (North Atlantic Conference, 1992-94), Katasha Artis (North Atlantic Conference, 1993-95) and Tesha Tinsley (America East, 1997-2000).
• After collecting 2018-19 Preseason All-CAA First Team honors, Genco led the CAA with six 30-point scoring games and co-led the league with four CAA Player of the Week honors, plus one Honorable Mention nod.
• At the conclusion of the regular season, Genco ranked among the top three CAA players in points (17.3), assists (4.4) and steals (1.9) per game while leading the conference and ranking among the top 10 Division I players in both free throw percentage (92.9) and minutes per game (38.0). She also led the CAA in 3-point field goals per game (2.8) and ranked fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (39.2).
• Genco was a finalist for the prestigious 2018-19 Dean Ehlers Leadership and Sports Excellence Award.

HUSKIES' POSTSEASON RESUME
• As of March 10, Northeastern ranks No. 100 in the RPI, No. 28 in non-conference RPI and No. 137 in overall strength of schedule.
• From Nov. 13, 2018, to Feb. 5, 2019, Northeastern received votes during 13 consecutive releases of collegeinsider.com's Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll – its longest streak during program history. The Huskies were ranked among the top 25 during nine straight weeks, peaking at No. 10 during the Dec. 18 reveal.
• Northeastern's lone quadrant I & II win took place against Maine on Dec. 22 at Cabot Center. NU had been ranked No. 10 in the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 at the time while the Black Bears were ranked No. 15.
• The Huskies posted nine victories against the CAA, which ranks No. 10 in the conference RPI (as of March 10). NU also earned two road victories against opponents from conferences that rank higher than the CAA in the RPI: Nov. 28 at Florida (SEC) and Dec. 15 at Providence (BIG EAST).

2018-19 SENIOR CLASS
• Northeastern's 2018-19 senior class has compiled 62 wins – a tie for the seventh most by a four-year graduating class during program history.
• The 2018-19 senior class has attained the most wins (62) and best winning percentage (.508) since the 2000-01 senior class posted 67 victories (.573).
• Point guard Jess Genco currently holds career program records in minutes played (4,562), games started (119), assists (531), 3-point field goals (291) and 3-point field goal attempts (823). Gabby Giacone is the program's record holder in career games played (121).
• Considering Jess Genco (1,511 career points) and Gabby Giacone (1,088), Northeastern is competing with two active members of its 1,000-point scoring club for the first time since the 2012-13 season (Deanna Kerkhof, Kash Cannon).

MILESTONE WATCH
• Jess Genco (1,511 career points) enters the 2019 CAA tournament needing 40 points to tie Katasha Artis for third place on Northeastern's all-time scoring list (1,551).
• Gabby Giacone (691 career rebounds) is nine rebounds away from becoming the seventh member of the Huskies' 1,000-point and 700-rebound club.

REGULAR SEASON TRENDS
• Northeastern is 15-0 this season when holding its opponent to less than 40 percent shooting from the field (7-0 against CAA opponents).
• The Huskies are 13-4 when outrebounding their opponent, experiencing each of their four defeats by six points or less.
• NU has posted a 16-2 record this year when registering 14 or more team assists.

20/20 VISION
• Northeastern is competing in pursuit of the program's third 20-win season.
• The Huskies' program record for wins is 22, set during their 1984-85 and 1998-99 campaigns – the latter of which resulted in the program's lone NCAA tournament appearance.

SEMIFINAL OPPONENTS
• With a CAA quarterfinal victory, Northeastern would oppose either second-seeded Drexel, seventh-seeded William & Mary or 10th-seeded College of Charleston on Friday during the tournament's second semifinal game (4 p.m.). NU combined to go 4-0 against William & Mary and College of Charleston during the regular season and went 0-2 against Drexel, losing its home game against the Dragons on a buzzer-beating basket.
