ORLANDO -- The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their outdoor season this past weekend, taking part in the Black and Gold Challenge at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
The Huskies sent 12 men and 16 women to the event, coming away with a combined 14 personal bests and eight all-time top 10 outdoor program bests.
The men's side saw two of those top-10 marks, one in the 400m hurdles and the other in the shot put.
David Adams recorded the 400m hurdle time, clocking in at 52.03 to earn fourth in the event and slot into fourth on the all-time list. Andrew Canistracci earned the shot put mark, throwing for a distance of 17.29m. That distance placed him first in the event and 10th on the all-time list.
Adam also finished sixth in the 110m hurdles (14.57), while Canistracci placed 10th in the discus (43.85m).
Spencer McKeough threw for fifth in the shot put (16.30m), and
Austin Lin earned sixth in the 400m (48.71).
Jordan Samuels finished ninth in the long jump (6.53m), fourth in the triple jump (13,82m), and eighth in the 110m hurdles (14.59).
Connor Donovan placed third in the 800m (1:52.43), while
Alexander Korczynski earned seventh (1:54.24) in the same event. Korczynski also finished sixth in the 1500m (3:56.17).
Nine personal bests and six top-10 program marks highlighted the women's performances, including two cracking the top three on those lists.
Erica Belvit placed third in the hammer throw (58.35m), a personal best and good for third on the program outdoor all-time list.
Leeyan Redwood also penciled herself in at third on a program list, this one in the shot put (14.99m). The distance was a personal best and earned her fourth in the event.
Also etching their names in the record books were Kailah Griffin in the 200m (24.82, t-10th all time),
Katie Hanlon in the 400m (56.28, fifth all time),
Kelsey Walak in the 1500m (4:38.73, 10th all time), and
Monae Cooper in the hammer throw (51.62m, seventh all time). Hanlon, Walak, and Cooer placed fifth, fourth, and seventh, respectively, in those events.
The Huskies put in a number of other impressive field performances, including
Leah Saifi placing third in the pole vault (3.55m),
Paige Suse earning fifth in the high jump (1.68m),
Zoe Taitel throwing for fifth in the discus (42.53m), and Griffin finishing third in the long jump (5.72m).
The Howlin' Huskies will be back in action this weekend starting Friday at the BSU Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater State University.
