BROOKLINE, Mass. – Despite cleanup hitter Corey DiLoreto registering his second three-hit game of the 2019 season on Wednesday, the Northeastern baseball team needed more ammunition to compete with Rhode Island as the Huskies played to the 8-0 defeat at Friedman Diamond.

DiLoreto accounted for three of Northeastern's four hits during the ballgame, knocking leadoff singles during the second and fourth innings before improving his batting line to three-for-three during the sixth inning. The redshirt-freshman exited the game with his .360 batting average, reclaiming the team lead in the category.

Northeastern (12-12) had trouble deciphering Jake Walker, who threw six scoreless innings for the Rams while striking out five. The Huskies assembled their best offensive frame of the day against Walker during the second inning, loading the bases before John Mazza's fly ball hung up long enough for Greg Cavaliere to make the final out.

Rhode Island (8-12) totaled 13 hits against the Huskies' staff of seven pitchers. Justin Cherry led the Rams with his three-for-five outing, doubling during the second inning to set up the game's go-ahead run.

Brian Rodriguez's start lasted two innings before Rhode Island led off the third inning with three consecutive singles against the right-hander, capped by Zavier Vargas' RBI knock. John Cristino doubled the Rams' lead to 4-0 during the sixth inning, hitting a two-RBI base hit to left field against Brandon Dufault.

Rhode Island rallied for three runs against NU freshman Owen Langan during the seventh inning before tacking on another run against Rick Burroni during the eighth inning.
