BROOKLINE, Mass. – Carrying its 3-0 lead against Delaware into the sixth inning of Saturday's CAA game, the Northeastern baseball team was unable to close the door on the Blue Hens as the visitors rallied for seven unanswered runs to defeat the Huskies, 7-3, at Friedman Diamond.

Northeastern (13-13, 3-2 CAA) received six innings from Sean Mellen, who kept Delaware (7-18, 2-3 CAA) scoreless through five innings before the Blue Hens plated two sixth-inning runs with two outs. Mellen struck out four batters and walked two, despite allowing a season high, five hits.

Aggressive base running led to the Huskies' opening run during the second inning. After Jeff Costello had cracked Northeastern's first hit of the game, he stole second base prior to scoring on Jake Rosen's RBI infield single that induced a throw to the plate.

Ian Fair drove Chris Ludman's first delivery of the third inning to left field for his team co-leading, fifth home run of the season. Jake Farrell followed immediately with his triple to the deepest part of Friedman Diamond before Corey DiLoreto brought him home courtesy of his RBI groundout that upped the Huskies' lead to 3-0.

Mellen retired the first two batters he faced to begin the sixth inning before Jordan Hutchins's two-out double extended the frame. With the bases loaded, Jack Goan connected on his two-RBI single to trim the NU lead down to 3-2, despite being thrown out at second base by the Huskies' 8-6-4 relay.

Northeastern loaded the bases in response during the bottom of the sixth inning before a controversial call resulted in the inning-ending double play. Farrell's one-hop comebacker to the pitcher's mound put Delaware in position to turn the 1-2-3 twin-killing, although Zack Miller's errant throw to first base that bounced off Farrell's helmet was deemed interference even with Farrell occupying the foul line en route to the bag.

The Blue Hens rallied for five two-out runs against Sam Jacobask during the seventh inning, featuring Joseph Carpenter's three-run homer.
