WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Trailing by as many as 13 points during the fourth quarter on Thursday night, the Northeastern women's basketball team found a way to stage an incredible comeback against William & Mary, scoring nine unanswered points during the final two and a half minutes to stun the Tribe, 75-71, at Kaplan Arena and clinch the final bye to the 2019 CAA quarterfinals.
Facing a 59-48 deficit at the end of the third quarter, Northeastern (18-10, 8-9 CAA) revved its intensity during the game's closing stanza, where the Huskies knocked down nine of their 11 fourth quarter field goal attempts while baiting William & Mary (13-15, 6-11 CAA) into committing seven of its 27 turnovers.
Northeastern executed four three-point scoring possessions during the fourth quarter to successfully chase down the Tribe, receiving 3-point baskets from rookies
Katie May and
Kendall Currence as well as a pair of and-one conversions by Currence and
Ayanna Dublin – the latter of which put NU in front, 73-71, with 38.2 seconds remaining in regulation.
Defensively, the Huskies limited William & Mary to five points during the game's final eight minutes, surrendering three free throws to Bianca Boggs (17 points, seven assists) with 5:12 left to play and a jumper to Gabby Rogers (10 points) at the 2:43 mark.
Four Huskies finished their scoring in double figures, led by the 14-point trio of Currence,
Jess Genco and
Shannon Todd. Currence shot five-for-seven from the field and recorded a career high, five steals, while Todd paced the squad with her career best, six assists. Dublin also posted 12 points and six rebounds for NU.
With the win, Northeastern locked up the No. 6 seed in the 2019 CAA tournament, which will take place at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Delaware, from March 13 to March 16 (hosted by Delaware). As the No. 6 seed, the Huskies will open the postseason in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., when they will oppose the league's No. 3 seed (yet to be determined).

• Northeastern has reached the 18-win threshold for the seventh time during program history and the first time since the 1998-99 season.
