BOCA RATON, Fla. – Despite senior Jake Farrell and freshman Jared Dupere hitting a pair of two-run home runs during Friday night's series opener at Florida Atlantic, the Northeastern baseball team had difficulty bringing runs across the plate against the Owls' right-hand starter, Blake Sanderson, who threw for the complete game victory as the Huskies were defeated, 7-4, at the FAU Baseball Stadium.

Quick outs plagued Northeastern (5-7) at the plate during the early going as Sanderson used just 25 pitches to keep the Huskies quiet through three innings. Corey DiLoreto and Jeff Costello managed to claw through for solitary singles during the second and third innings, although Sanderson proceeded to retire 10 straight NU batters before the Huskies broke up the shutout bid during the sixth inning.

Florida Atlantic (7-7) blitzed David Stiehl for six runs, five earned, before the end of the third inning. The Owls loaded the bases three batters into the game prior to rallying for three first-inning runs, later padding their lead to 6-0 courtesy of Joe Montes's third-inning, two-run home run to right field.

After Ian Fair's sixth-inning single had ended Sanderson's streak of consecutive outs collected, Farrell connected on a two-run shot to right field. Scott Holzwasser and DiLoreto both reached base in the wake of Farrell's third home run of the season, but Northeastern's rally subsided as Ryan Solomon induced the inning-ending foul out.

Solomon bounced back to record the ninth-inning single that prompted Dupere's first collegiate home run, which brought the Huskies within three runs of the Owls with two outs left to be earned.

NU freshman Owen Langan took over for Stiehl at the start of the fifth inning, pitching a scoreless inning of relief during his collegiate debut.

Sanderson's final line featured five strikeouts and no walks. Eric Rivera led Florida Atlantic with three hits out of the leadoff spot, including his third-inning double.
