BOSTON – Facing challenging conditions with a 14mph cross headwind on the Charles River, Columbia got the best of the Northeastern women's rowing team last weekend to take the Woodbury Cup.
The crews dealt with considerable chop through the first 500-meters of the race before the course calmed over the second 1000-meters. That didn't stop Columbia, however, from building an open water advantage over the Huskies to win with a time of 7:29.40 to Northeastern's 7:39.80.
The Northeastern second varsity went up against a tough Columbia crew in its morning race, battling down the course before the Lions ultimately nipped the Huskies by four seconds at 7:54.20.
The Huskies varsity four boat, though, was in complete control throughout its race, quickly establishing an open water lead and never looking back, defeating Columbia by 10 seconds at 8:25.30.
Northeastern will be back in action on Apr. 27 when the Huskies host Yale on the Charles River.
