BRIGHTON, Mass. – Despite David Stiehl and Josh Winkler combining to throw a two-hitter during Tuesday's Baseball Beanpot semifinal game against Harvard, the Northeastern baseball team was unable to mend the damage from the Crimson's four-run fifth inning as the Huskies were defeated, 4-3, at Boston College's Harrington Athletics Village.

With the defeat, NU will play in the tournament's consolation game on Wednesday, April 17, at Fenway Park against Boston College, which lost to Massachusetts, 6-2, during Tuesday's opening semifinal game.

Batting as the visiting team, Northeastern (14-14) loaded the bases three batters into the contest without recording a hit before jumping out to the 2-0 lead against Harvard (14-6).

Scott Holzwasser and Jake Farrell sandwiched walks around Ian Fair's free pass to first base via his hit-by-pitch, setting the table for Corey DiLoreto, who lifted the go-ahead sacrifice fly to right field. Jeff Costello followed with an RBI groundout to third base, bringing Fair home as the Huskies built the early, two-run advantage.

After retiring the Crimson in order to begin his first career Beanpot start, Stiehl recovered from walking the bases loaded during the second inning, collecting the final two outs of the inning to preserve Northeastern's lead. The NU right-hander opened his outing with four scoreless frames, closing the fourth inning with seven strikeouts upon striking out the side.

Hunter Baldwin cracked the first hit for either team during the fifth inning, knocking Stiehl's 1-2 delivery into left field to move Trent Bryan over to third base. Consecutive walks to Patrick McColl and Jake Suddleson then halved the Huskies' lead to 2-1 before Hunter Bigge's inning-ending ground ball was errantly fielded, allowing the tying run to score.

With the inning having been extended, Chad Minato singled deep into the hole on the right side, putting Harvard in front, 4-2.

Northeastern quickly earned a run back during the sixth inning. DiLoreto belted a leadoff double for the Huskies' first hit of the night, later scoring an unearned run for NU via Michael Geaslen's bases-loaded walk.

The Huskies put two runners aboard during the seventh inning, despite Costello grounding into the inning-ending, 6-4-3 double play.

Winkler retired each of the 10 consecutive Harvard batters he faced in relief, striking out one.

Kevin Stone earned the winning decision for the Crimson, firing five no-hit innings, yet allowing two runs and five walks.
