BROOKLINE, Mass. – Squaring off during Sunday's rubber match against College of Charleston, the Northeastern baseball team missed an opportunity to close within a half game of second place in the CAA as the Huskies were kept to five hits during their 7-1 loss to the Cougars at Friedman Diamond.

Scott Holzwasser produced the lone run of the game for Northeastern (18-21, 8-7 CAA), which departed the series in sole possession of third place in the CAA standings. After Cam Walsh had led off the third inning with a single and moved into scoring position via a wild pitch, Holzwasser muscled Brooks Lucas's 2-1 offering down the left field line for an RBI double, bringing the Huskies within two runs at 3-1.

Northeastern threatened for more offense during the third inning as Ian Fair's five-pitch walk featured a passed ball that presented the Huskies with runners at the corners and no outs. However, Fair was thrown out while attempting to steal second base before Lucas picked up consecutive outs against Jake Farrell and Corey DiLoreto.

College of Charleston (26-14, 9-3 CAA) did Kyle Murphy in for five runs across his five and one-third innings on the hill, swinging six hits. Danny Wondrack's first-inning double helped the Cougars take the early, 2-0 lead while Chris Graham connected on a two-run homer during the sixth inning that widened the margin to 5-1.

Sam Jacobsak struck out the side during the seventh inning, but was charged with two unearned runs during the eighth inning that put the game out of reach. With the bases loaded, Ryan Solomon errantly threw Dupree Hart's infield ball to home plate, allowing the Cougars to raise their advantage to 7-1.

Jake Farrell doubled and went two-for-four for Northeastern while Jake Rosen failed to continue his 23-game reached base streak, which is tied with Ian Fair for the Huskies' longest of the season.
