Track and field logs 19 personal bests in weekend action

BOSTON -- 
The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams attended two meets this weekend, including their first and only home meet of the outdoor season. Between the two meets, the Huskies had a combined 19 personal bests and two top-10 all time bests.
 
On Friday and Saturday, a trio of Huskies traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for the Virginia Challenge. Alexander Korczynski continued his ascent up the program 3000m steeplechase record book, moving from seventh into second on the all-time outdoor performance list with a time of 8:59.73 that earned him fifth in the event. Cameron Dickson placed 18th in the 10000m (30:50.34), and Kerri Ruffo finished 38th in the 5000m invite (17:09.22).
 
The rest of the Huskies stayed to defend their home turf on Saturday, sending 36 men and 26 women to the Solomon Outdoor Track in Dedham, Mass. for the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational. Both the men and the women placed second overall, with New Hampshire taking home the victory on both sides.
 
The men compiled 236.50 points, earning second overall to New Hampshire's 265.50. A strong 10000m set the tone for the Huskies, as they took the top four spots in the event. Steven Flanagan (32:35.07) took gold, with Benjamin Weingart (32:35.15), Luke Novak (32:50.68), and Zachary Jarnagin (32:55.17) following behind in that order. All four runners recorded personal bests in the event.
 
Collins Ebozue and Quinn Litherland dominated the short sprints, occupying the top two spots on the podium in both the 100m and 200m. Ebozue took gold in the 100m with a time of 10.92, with Litherland grabbing silver at 11.01. The two flipped for the 200m, with Litherland (21.94) taking gold to Ebozue's (22.01) silver. Austin Lin ran both events as well, placing fifth with a personal best 11.20 in the 100m and earning bronze in the 200m (22.03).
 
Christian Bobowicz championed the 400m (52.42), while Christian Stafford (3:59.87) and Connor Donovan (4:01.07, PB) took home second and third, respectively, in the 1500m. David Adams and Mayowa Osunsami medaled in the 110m hurdles, Adams (14.89) earning gold and Osunsami (15.51) taking bronze.
 
Mark Puglia and Phillips Magre both recorded 1.88m (a personal best for Puglia) in the high jump; due to tiebreakers, Puglia won the event and Magre finished in a tie for third. Puglia also earned silver in the javelin throw (51.39m). The pole vault saw Travis Kartz (4.60m) and Kurt Robakiewicz (3.35m) place first and third, respectively, while Jordan Samuels leapt to second in the long jump (6.83m) and third in the triple jump (14.08m). Spencer McKeough won silver in the shot put (16.34m).
 
On the women's side, the Huskies scored 189 points to finish second overall, with New Hampshire's 216 points earning them the victory. Leeyan Redwood provided one of the highlights of the day in the shot put, moving into third on the all-time program outdoor performance list with a throw of 15.21m, winning gold in the event. Priscilla Senoo (13.92m) and Zoe Taitel (13.60m) joined her on the podium, earning silver and bronze, respectively. Senoo and Taitel medaled in the discus throw as well, with Taitel (45.15m) grabbing the gold and Senoo (40.85m) taking bronze.
 
Kailah Griffin championed the 100m (12.37), in addition to placing second in the long jump (5.53m). Sydney Fisher earned a pair of bronze medals, one in the 100m (12.70) and the other in the 200m (26.54). Sydney Salas finished third in the 1500m at 4:41.70, a personal best. The Huskies took victory in both hurdle events, Michelle Nkoudou in the 100m (14.71) and Olivia Robbins in the 400m (1:08.01).
 
Paige Suse took home first place in the high jump (1.70m), while Julia Marshall placed fourth with a personal-best 1.55m. Eliana Sirkin earned gold in the pole vault (3.30m), with Bridgette Muller finishing in a tie for second at 3.15m. Erica Belvit didn't break any records this week, but she still championed the hammer throw (58.23m). Monae Cooper placed two spots behind her in third with a throw of 51.28m.
 
Looking ahead, the Howlin' Huskies will finish up the regular season this upcoming weekend, taking on the Penn Relays in Philadelphia Thursday-Saturday and the Brown Springtime Open on Sunday.
